Give Me Your Eyes Lyrics

Looked down from a broken sky
Traced out by the city lights
My world from a mile high
Best seat in the house tonight
Touched down on the cold black tile
Hold on for the sudden stop
Breath in the familiar shock
Of confusion and chaos
Are those people going somewhere?
Why have I never cared?

Chorus:
Give me your eyes for just one second
Give me your eyes so I can see
Everything that I keep missing
Give me your love for humanity
Give me your arms for the broken hearted
Wasnt it far beyond my reach?
Give me your heart for the once forgotten
Give me your eyes so I can see
again
again
yeah
yeah

Step out on a busy street
See a girl and our eyes meet
Does her best to smile at me
To hide whats underneath
Theres a man just to her right
Black suit and a bright red tie
To ashamed to tell his wife
Hes out of work
Hes buying time
Are those people going somewhere?
Why have I never cared?

Chorus

Ive Been there a million times
A couple of million eyes
Just moving past me by
I swear I never thought that I was wrong
Well I want a second glance
So give me a second chance
To see the way you see the people all alone

Chorus (x2)

Amazing Song. To me this song is talking about someone is is "awakening". Realizing he should care about everyone. Praying to God to give him His eyes so he can see.

love this song!! i think he is asking God to give him the ability to see people's needs and to reach out to them.

I think this song encourages us to ask ourselves one of the most significant questions of all. "Are we blind? Can we see? We are one, Incomplete." as the verve put it in "love is noise". It's the change we can make if we seek the ability to understand and share our hearts with those around us. To see not with our own eyes of judgement, or ego. But to see with the eyes of compassion & hope. I think Brandon Heath succeeded in conveying this message through a brilliant collation of poetic justice. The video complimenting every note, clearly following in an effort to convey a simple truth. At 1:53 the chorus begins as a young lady walks into the street and is faced with her final moment of life. "Give me your eyes for just one second" - "Give me your eyes so I can see" - "Everything that I keep missing" - "Give me your love for humanity" - As if to clearly say that he realized he could have changed the way things were, if only he had truly seen what he had felt. This is backed up in the final seconds of the song at 3:36 when instead of watching the young lady walk away, he instead runs toward her and through the compassion in his heart, and instead of ignoring what he saw - acted - and saved a life. Reminding each of us that we too have the power to change the circumstances that surround us and the lives of those in despair.

If you haven't seen the video I highly encourage it. As we should all understand and share this message. Every corner you turn, every path you cross, is brimming with the opportunity to make a difference. The change starts with you.

i think hes trying to view the world, asking himself why has hes never cared about anyone else, so saying "give me your eyes" so he can see from other peoples point of view.

This is a beautiful song about the singer who sees the pain and suffering around. So he asks God to give him the attrivutes to help people..and he asks God to help him be more like God (as in God's characteristics)..
