On the outside she looks so peaceful
With her eyes shut tight against all evil
And her shoulders drop like a failed messiah
And all her fears rejoice inside her
So she rolls out into the sunlight
And her daddy tells her she'll be alright
But he don't look at her and he don't smile
He whispers a prayer to ease his mind
When she gets home no one says a word
Her mama's cryin' doesn't notice her
She turns the lock on the bedroom door
She finds the answer and takes one more
And one more and one more and one more
One more
With her eyes shut tight against all evil
And her shoulders drop like a failed messiah
And all her fears rejoice inside her
And her daddy tells her she'll be alright
But he don't look at her and he don't smile
He whispers a prayer to ease his mind
Her mama's cryin' doesn't notice her
She turns the lock on the bedroom door
She finds the answer and takes one more
And one more and one more and one more

the impression i got from this song was that it was either about birth control or abortion
fucking amazing song. Nothing more needs to be said about that.
It's about a girl with some sort of drug addiction, easily enough explained. I guess her dad is trying to help her get off of the drugs...
...and if the mother wasn't lamenting, she could've helped stop her daughter from continuing her addiction, or at least tried.
forgot to mention. she commits suicide at the end.
The beginning of the song could just as easily be about depression or another mental disorder. Or maybe even a failed suicide attempt.
And yes, the end definitely sounds like an overdose.
