Annie, Use Your Telescope Lyrics
It started feeling like October
I got stranded on the road
You know where to find me
Anytime you want me Annie,
Annie, use your telescope
So they made my life into a movie
As if I could forget those years
But I know where the time's gone
Just how well my mind's been wandering
Annie, use your telescope
Telescope
Annie, use your telescope
When it's late, don't stop looking
Where my eyes turn to glass
When it's late, don't stop,
Annie, I will make it.
Hello? Is there anybody out there?
Hello? I'm only getting farther, oh.
It started feeling like October
Annie, use your telescope
Telescope
When it's late, don't stop looking
(Annie, use your telescope)
Where my eyes turn to glass
When it's late, don't stop,
(Annie, use your telescope)
Annie, I will make it back
When it's late, don't stop looking
(Annie, use your telescope)
Where my eyes turn to glass
When it's late, don't stop,
Annie, I will make it.
(your telescope)
Annie, I will make it.
(your telescope)
Annie, I will make it.
Annie, I will make it.
I got stranded on the road
You know where to find me
Anytime you want me Annie,
Annie, use your telescope
As if I could forget those years
But I know where the time's gone
Just how well my mind's been wandering
Annie, use your telescope
Annie, use your telescope
Where my eyes turn to glass
When it's late, don't stop,
Annie, I will make it.
Hello? I'm only getting farther, oh.

Andrew said in an interview that this song was in reference to his wife. "It's not exactly her middle name, but something close." Everything else in the song is pretty simple after that. I suppose it refers to when he is on tour and away from her..?
The beginning part, I'm pretty sure, refers to in October of 07 when Andrew had to cancel a few shows. Hence, "it started feeling like October." He said in the same interview that he wrote this after he came home and decided he needed to take some things off his plate and focus on the record. "That was the first thing that came out. It was one of the quickest writes in the whole thing."
And then, obviously, there is the part about the Dear Jack Movie "so they made my life into a movie." I guess that is pretty self explanatory. But, for some reason, when I first heard that part it almost seemed to me like Andrew somewhat.. resented(?) the video. I don't know if that's the word I'm looking for. But it almost seemed to me that in the line "As if I could forget those years" Andrew wished he didn't have this constant reminder of his cancer. I have seen and read many interviews where Andrew talks about the Dear Jack Movie and I know that he doesn't actually despise this video or anything. But he has said that it is heavy, and difficult stuff for him to watch. And it has to be tough always getting asked questions and reminded about this horrible thing you went through. So, maybe, just for a second, he let a little resentment slip? I dunno. I'm probably wrong. That's just my take on it.
To me this song is about Andrew missing the days of youth he spent partying. He gets caught reminiscing about how much fun life was when he was so carefree. Days of young love (Annie), good friends, and nights of getting stoned on the beach with the people you care for. He has the strong desire to have all that back. So he lights one just like old times and just in case Annie misses him as much as he misses her, he tells her that hes high, where they spent so much time before. Hes going to make this glassy eye feeling last as long as he can, because he will always want it back. But then it starts feeling like October...
Im suprised nobody has posted anything like this. Andrew is Venice kid and references pot many times in SoCo and Jacks.

lovely....I love this CD
wow I can not wait for this cd to come out, Andrew is so amazing.
The meaning that stick out to me is 2 people that were relationship but still care for eachother and stayed best friends after the breakup. It seems like the boy is far away somewhere or he moved away and they dont really talk anymore but he still had some feelings for her. Lately he hes is thinking a lot about his friend and is wondering how she is. He wonders if she misses him as much as he misses her and if she still thinks about him too. The telescope to me represents a moment they shared the night before he left where maybe they were looking up at the stars and before he says goodnight and goodbye he told her that if she ever needs him just look up at the stars in the sky.
I agree with vintagelove.
Like last night I was in bed listening to this and trying to hard to figure out what it means, but now that I read the lyrics it makes sense.
These 2 people had this relationship where they could talk about anything but as time grew, they grew apart.
Now that they are totally apart, they relaize how much they needed each other and they come to tell each other that one of them will be there for the other one no matter what and no matter what they're going trough. To always remember something that they told each other and I think that might be kind of towards the whole Telescope thing.
I know that sounds like a jumbbled mess. It might make some sense.
Well I kinda think it's about how he had leukemia and he filmed it and it's been made into a documentary.
I just think its about being there for someone you love, no matter when or where you're needed.
I bought the In Valleys EP on iTunes just now, and I think they got it wrong. They have the track titled this but it's At Full Speed.
