Night and Day Lyrics

Day break, I'm sitting near your grave
I take my guitar out of the tin bag because I haven't got a case for it
I take a flight of fancy and see an airplane reflecting the sun
It carries many stories, enough for our flight

A couple of rabbits come out from nowhere
Wriggling their ears, always together
Feeling, reeling, dealing, revealing, singing by your side
Because I know that I feel out of place
Anywhere I go

I sing night and day
I sing night and day
I sing night and day
Night and day
Night and day

I run night and day
I run night and day
I run night and day
Night and day
Night and day

As all the things come together
Time flows past me like a never-ending river
People drifting in the forest of buildings
How many times am I gonna see you in my dreams
You're a memory now, one I pray never fades

I sing night and day
I sing night and day
I sing night and day
Night and day
Night and day
Night and day
Night and day

Cover art for Night and Day lyrics by Akeboshi

This is a really beautiful song. It's great to sing to, if you can manage the register and the long lines, but at least now, I find it nearly impossible because I'm crying at the same time.

It's a song about bereavement and loss. In the first verse, we find out he's sitting near somebody's grave, and reflecting on the world around him. I suppose the rabbits could be bittersweet, "always together", while the person whose grave he's visiting can't be with him anymore. And it's obvious he hasn't gotten over the loss, "Because I know I feel out of place/ Anywhere I go". Other people's stories have always intrigued me, and so I feel the same thing as Akeboshi when I see an airplane. It's exactly the sort of musing that fits into a song like this.

In the second verse he expands on the feeling of being out of place. "Time flows past me like a never-ending river" - feeling swept away, a totally extemporary life, where nothing feels real. I don't think you have to lose someone to know how this feels, it's something that just happens to most people. You stop and look around and see nothing. It's a song about a memory that won't let you be.
