The Combine Lyrics
I thought I was dead.
Nothing moves in the land of death.
Nothing moves in the land of decay.
This is something I have always wished for. Complete extermination.
A bruised and beaten mongrel gasping for her final breath.
Ultimate extinction.
No remorse for anything.
No salvation for anyone.
You want a war motherfucker?
Survival of the fittest was a bullshit lie.
The stench of rot owns the earth.
You want a war?
I'll give you a fucking war.
You wanted a war, so I gave you a fucking war.
I thought I was dead.
I'm the only one left...

That's so obnoxious when people say "oh the meaning is clear." If it's so clear, say it.
As far as this song in particular is concerned, the meaning actually is quite clear. I'm not sure what context he is saying "I thought I was dead" in. The song is generally about having an utter hatred for the world around you, expressed by the line "survival of the fittest was a bullshit lie"...suggesting that survival of the fittest obviously isn't in full effect when you take into account all the garbage human beings that have been produced and allowed to thrive. It's about being fucking fed up with everything and having no sympathy or remorse for anything, and worrying only about yourself.
Great song when you're pissed the fuck off.
Surprised Emmure hasn't done a cover of it.
this is an AMAZING song the meaning is quite clear amazing album
This wouldn't happen to be about Half-life 2 would it? Cause "The Combine" are the main bad guys in that game and it's basically a big war against the renaming humans and the combine
Yes. you're basically right. I was just playing Half Life two listening to this song and it just clicked. Hahaha.

Maybe slightly related, how they got their name. The Acacia Strain seems to have pretty interesting ways of getting their song names... like Skynet I'm pretty sure is from the terminator lol

The remaining humans, not renaming lol
The song is clearly about Half-life (The game(Series)) and Gordon Freeman.
I'm the only one left...
He's considered to the one "free man" in the world.
I'll give you a fucking war. You wanted a war, so I gave you a fucking war.
The Combine wouldn't listen to the revolutionists. So they threatened civil uproar and a war started between the revolutionists and the combine.
Nothing moves in the land of death. Nothing moves in the land of decay.
What has become of the world since the new world order.
"Survival of the fittest was a bullshit lie. "
most of the people that survived were Doctors, Technicians and Engineers.
The line 'i thought I was dead' is about waking up to see world in ruins and being the last human alive. This is also reflected in the line 'i am the end of the world' from JFC because the last human alive gets to decided how they finish off the human race. I know I would think I was dead if that happened to me and personally I would laugh hysterically, put the continent album on full blast, rip a bong and shoot myself in the head!
