At Full Speed Lyrics

Should the canyons burn
All night long like the 4th of July
We won't need an alibi
There's gas in the car
Hours 'til sunrise
And there's no guarantee
That leaving town's gonna set us both free
But stayin' here, it's just not what we need
Yeah, stayin' here, it's just not what we need

Because America shines, yes it does
In between the white lines where I found love
All alone on a road going nowhere
Going nowhere
Going nowhere
At full speed

And I have travelled far
And I've seen things that I'd rather not say
When you're travellin' it's better that way
The darker the secret, the harder you'll keep it
But it's no victory
Always running away like I do
Always know that I'll come back to you
Always know that I'll come back to you

Because America shines, yes it does
In between the white lines where I found love
All alone on a road going nowhere
Going nowhere
Going nowhere
At full speed
At full speed

Because America shines, yes it does
In between the white lines where I found love
All alone on a road going nowhere
Going nowhere
Going nowhere
At full speed
Alone on a road going nowhere
Going nowhere
Going nowhere
At full speed

And should the canyons burn
I'm catching right off the coast

I like the double meaning of finding love between white lines.

I bought the In Valleys EP on iTunes already, and Annie, Use Your Telescope is listed as the song but with these lyrics. Just figured I'd let everyone know.

The funny thing is, this is the only song released by Andrew that I had never heard until recently. I heard my boy friend playing this song and singing it, and I honestly thought he wrote it. Even before I showed him Andrew, they both had a similar writing and playing style. It was a shame when he told me he didn't write it though, I was going to tell him to make it be his new single! haha I should of known better. =P

The piano trills Andrew does right after the first and last "at full speed" are just gorgeous. He's amazing. <3

"In between the white lines where I found love." Cocaine, perhaps?

i don't think so, i would have a hard time believing that Andrew uses drugs, especially something as hard as cocaine. i may be wrong, and some people may make the argument that his lyrics are so creative that they HAVE to be drug related, but i think that in order to be musically successful, you have to be at least a little bit crazy. just take that with a grain of salt(:

i absolutely love this song. i think it's incredibly beautifully written, and the lyrics are so meaningful. i think that it's saying that he's breaking up with a girl, or he may be leaving his family. "Always know that i'll come back to you" i think is saying that he'll return to see his family/girlfriend, but he just doesn't know when it'll be. i love Andrew's voice, and his piano playing is absolutely beautiful. like a true Andrew McMahon fan, "Konstantine"'s play-count on my itunes is 126. Thank God that Andrew survived his leukemia.

I think this is about fleeding everyday life and seeing the world (America) with brand new eyes. In a way fixing problems he might be having with his girl. I don't think 'In between the white lines where I found love' refers to cocain, I think it refers to the white stripes on the American flag.

In the second verse he confesses to have done bad things in their relationship, for cowarding out and for possiblyt cheating. But he won't mention them he'll just try to fix them silently, because America shines, (their love is beautiful).
