Oh, this song means so much to me... I feel like what she's saying here is that she's starting to realize that life doesn't go on forever. When you're young you have this feeling of invincibility. You feel like you're on top of the world and nothing can happen to you or bring you down. This song to me is about someone realizing that all of that isn't true... I learned this lesson the hard way. Recently, I lost my best friend in a car accident. She was only 16 and the driver was speeding and hill-hopping... The moment I found out that my friend was dead it just hit me so hard that everything can end in a split second. This song makes me think of that. "Until now I've been bold. I've laughed at fire. I've danced through the unknown. But lately things have shaked me." It's like this person is learning that lesson as well. Something bad has happened and shaken that feelng of invincibility out of them and now they are beginning to realize that it can happen to them to. I think this is such an important thing to learn... especially before it's too late... this really hits me hard.
To me this song is about thinking you have everything set and figured out, but then things just don't go the way you originally thought. Like I thought I was fine, I thought I could go to a university and just breeze right through, make a bunch of friends, and get a good job...didn't happen. Now I feel like I'm back at square one. (so here I am treading water again, this is not what I had planned...)
i love this song so much. it's come to be one of my favorite missy songs... especially lyrically.
