Beating My Heart Lyrics

There are times every now and then
I forget why I'm breathing out
And why I'm breathing in
And I get so sick with the little things
I can't relax when it's happening
To know what it means
It means

And then I open my eyes
And I know you're beating my heart, beating my heart
Look at the sky
I know you're beating my heart, beating my heart
I go extra miles to show
That you are the one thing that I've got
Look at the sky
I know you're beating my heart, beating my heart

There's a sun coming over the horizon
I wanna know where it's coming from
But doesn't everyone
It's like who am I and why am I here

And then I open my eyes
And I know you're beating my heart, beating my heart
Look at the sky
I know you're beating my heart, beating my heart
I go extra miles to show
That you are the one thing that I've got
Look at the sky
I know you're beating my heart, beating my heart

This whole world will take me down
Without you standing by my side
My side
You're holding onto me
You're making everything inside
Come alive

And then I open my eyes
And I know you're beating my heart, beating my heart
Look at the sky
I know you're beating my heart, beating my heart
I go extra miles to show
That you are the one thing that I've got
Look at the sky
I know you're beating my heart, beating my heart

I think this is simply a song about a broken man, who can't see his meaning in life or purpose in the world, who is saved by a girl who comes along and lights him up. I can relate a little bit. This summer I had been hanging out with a really close friend of mine, and I couldn't have been happier when I was with her. Every day was a struggle where I could barely drag along without just being so completely bored and feeling pointless, but seeing her made it better.

I thought he was talking about God "beating his heart", keeping him alive, etc., mostly because he keeps talking about looking up at the sky. Like he is looking above for the meaning of life. But I can see how it could be about a girl he's in love with too. I guess it could go either way.

i also believe that this song could go both ways, either about the love of GOD or the love of a person. love is powerful and to many it gives meaning to life, which is what thi song is talking about, how love can bring you back and beat your heart. love reminds you of all that is great and give life purpose. personally the love of my LORD gives my life meaning and i kno he is beating my heart but i also understand that love in itself, love of someone can also bring a dead soulto life.

This is my favorite song of allll time! I haven't stopped listening to it since the first time I heard it. But I think it is about a girl, because I hear sliiight sexual connetation. Great song either way, I can't believe more people haven't commented!

Jon has stated himself that he wrote this song about his relationship with God, but what I think is so great about it is that it doesn't explicitly say it's about God or religion at all, it's open to interpretation. It can be about God, or the love of your life, or your family, depending on the listener.

This song is definitely written about GOD. when I first heard it I related it to my marriage, but then I researched more about Jon and most of his songs are about his faith. so it's definitely about God.

though anyone can relate to it differently, but it was specifically written about his faith.
