Driving Nowhere Lyrics
She always seemed to lead him astray,
She'd filled his tank up for a trip on the dual carriageway,
In his enamoured state he'd always obey,
But yeah anyway,
She'd never leave his side,
Eyelids open wide,
Eyelids open wide,
He always relied.
She's done such bad things, yeah you must understand,
She's lost his house and friends,
She'd almost made him kill a man,
Always under his skin,
She'd taken cash from him,
(Still he took her back)
And they go out tonight,
He don't even know her,
She's taken him over,
And they go out tonight,
Driving to nowhere,
She sits there silent in the passenger seat,
Eyelids stiffened and arteries replete,
Condensation on windows,
He don't feel a thing no,
Feels nothing,
He gets pulled over by the cusp of the morning,
He doesn't flinch cause he lets her do the talking,
She's got a way with words,
And they got nothing on her,
So they carry on,
And they go out tonight,
He don't even know her,
She's taken him over,
And they go out tonight,
Driving to nowhere,
Take it away,
Said take it away,
Take it away,
Before the dusk turns to day,
I'm driving alone,
I can be strong on my own,
I can be strong on my own,
I can be strong on my...
And they go out tonight,
He don't even know her,
She's taken him over,
And they go out tonight,
Driving to nowhere,
And the journey alone ain't so appealing,
He's gone he's lost all feeling,
Driving to nowhere,
Driving to nowhere.
She'd filled his tank up for a trip on the dual carriageway,
In his enamoured state he'd always obey,
But yeah anyway,
She'd never leave his side,
Eyelids open wide,
Eyelids open wide,
He always relied.

Driving to nowhere,
Driving to nowhere.

This song dominates the whole album. I think it's perfect.
"She'd filled his tank up for a trip on the dual carriageway" I'm guessing this must mean that she's making him pay out of the nose for a relatively small journey, which is a metaphor for the relationship in question.
I always thought that it was about like drugs or something. Like 'He always relied' kinda seems like he's addicted.
But then, like other things in the song dont make sense. :/
In an interview, James from Hadouken! said the song isn't what it seems, but I can't figure out what it's about...:(
LOVE this song =] I think that its a metaphor for a drug the guy's addicted to. the stuff that "she's" done eg,She's lost his house and friends, She'd almost made him kill a man, is the stuff that the drug has made him do after he's taken it.
She'd taken cash from him, (Still he took her back) it's made him do all this stuff and used up his money but he still takes it.
He don't even know her, She's taken him over he doesn't really have a clue what the drug's doing to him and that he's addicted.
I'm driving alone, I can be strong on my own, he's come off the drug and is trying to resist going back to it.
the rest carries along in the same vein.
EILS nailed it I guess. Great song, good to see they have more things up their sleeves and not just the typical Get Smashed or That Boy That Girl
i think the song is about a man who goes out with a girl and the girl just takes advantage and he eventually has enough....takes her out and murders her at night, but being alone scares him....or the addicted bit could be that he has done it before to someone he loves and he couldn't stop himself.....he doesn't feel nothing untill he takes someones life.
does anyone know the line in the intro that is not included in these lyrics and at the end of the song too ? i cant seem to find it anywhere :S great song though
Bonnie and Clyde type duo with the "Clyde" in the song being a reluctant participant is my guess.
