The Man Who Would Be King Lyrics
Bless me father, I must go away
To save us from the ones who don't believe
Confess me father I have sinned
But maybe angels really sing
For the man who would be king
We laugh at your religion, you people of the sand
We have no superstition, you can read it in our hands
Forgive me father for the change we bring
But it's all for the man who would be king
Don't leave a body standing, not the holy, not the small
Deliver us from evil
If it's yours we want it all
Lately father I've been wondering
Is the devil just the man who would be king?
How can right be ever wrong?
We are glory, we are stronger than you
We never got an answer
It's just too late to ask
The bloody flag was waving
Our hearts just ran too fast
Curse me father for the chains we bring
And don't believe the man who would be king
We never got an answer, the question slipped my mind
I've been so busy killing, I haven't found the time
To save us from the ones who don't believe
Confess me father I have sinned
But maybe angels really sing
For the man who would be king
We have no superstition, you can read it in our hands
But it's all for the man who would be king
Deliver us from evil
If it's yours we want it all
Is the devil just the man who would be king?
We are glory, we are stronger than you
We never got an answer
It's just too late to ask
The bloody flag was waving
Our hearts just ran too fast
And don't believe the man who would be king
I've been so busy killing, I haven't found the time

So, this song has mutiple parts, the song is really referencing the beginning question: do angels really sing for the man would would be king? (which our question as the listener is "who is the the man who would be king; Jesus? (the true king of kings, or those in power, and have kingship/poltical power) which he then kinda answers with: the "we laugh at your religion, we do this for the man who would be king?" then he continues the question by asking: 'is the devil the man who would be king' (assuming after seeing the state of this world that this man brought) which then leads into part 3 which is some war state that says he forgets the question and just goes to war.. for he hasn't found the time.. Ronnie james DIO IS the best song writer that people have began to over look entirely.. May his legend continue forever in the hearts of those who hear the true meanings of his songs.. -RR
I think this song is about the evils in world. if there is a God, why is there so much suffering?
I just watched the final episode of Joan of Arcadia which was unfortunately cancelled on their season 2.
...where Joan proudly said, "I have god on my side".
its a pity there are less and less people like Joan in this world.
and God worked his mysterious charms with people like this Joan character...
"you believed in something, now it is just a lie" - another one from Dio's lyrics.
but how can it be a lie when you truly believe it?
this is what Dio wanted to express....believ in yourself, let God do the rest.
We are a God in our own choices we have.
