Lay Down Your Cross Lyrics

Lay down your cross
Cross off your day
Lady, lady

Turn off your phone
Lie where you lay
Lady, lady
Please, please

Love let me love
Love let me love
Love let me love
Let me love her again

Love let me love
Let me love her again

Oh yeah

Kick off your feet
Twist off your head
Lady, lady

Burn all your clothes
And then let's go to bed
And get Lazy
Lady, Please, Please

Love let me love
Love let me love
Love let me love
Let me love her again

Love let me love
Let me love her again

Oh yeah

You don't see me drinking alone
Do you dear?
You don't see me drink on my own
Do you dear?
You don't see me drinking alone

Love let me love
Love let me love
Love let me love
Let me love her again

Love let me love
Let me love her again

Oh yeah

Love let me love
Love let me love
Love let me love
Let me love her again

Love let me love
Let me love her again

Oh yeah

Cover art for Lay Down Your Cross lyrics by Elbow

This song has the word 'Love' in it 40 times.

This is the later version...the 2002 radio 1 version had a couple of lines different.

'kick of your shoes' instead of 'Cross off your day'

and 'Let's crush the cap on that whiskey'

instead of

' Lie where you lay'

and later

'Dinner is served' All you've deserved

And incidentally, it has the word 'smorgasbord' a total of zero times.

My version had a few lines altered, also;

'Cross off your day' became 'Ahhhhhh, look at all the lonely people'

and 'Climbing a stairway to heaven' rather than 'Lie where you lay'

and further on in the piece I replaced the iconic 'Dinner is served' with the lesser known 'I can't get no satisfaction'.
