26 Is Dancier Than 4 Lyrics
I’m so sorry I’m not down tonight
But all my friends have lost their minds
And whats more…
…I’m not happy here anymore.
We should’ve stayed at home tonight.
All the bright lights and company
are not what I need.
Its just the same as it was before.
Same faces there to hit the floor.
My legs have carried me far.
There’s still strength enough for one more.
So lets carry on
And dance to all the same songs.
Like back when we were young
And nights like this would fade to one.
So lets get out of here.
We’ve done all we can.
This place is not dead.
So when will this night end?
We’ll do it all again,
Next Friday night.
This Picture-postcard modernity.
But all my friends have lost their minds
And whats more…
…I’m not happy here anymore.
All the bright lights and company
are not what I need.
Same faces there to hit the floor.
My legs have carried me far.
There’s still strength enough for one more.
So lets carry on
And dance to all the same songs.
Like back when we were young
And nights like this would fade to one.
We’ve done all we can.
This place is not dead.
So when will this night end?
Next Friday night.
This Picture-postcard modernity.

yeh what a song!!! they're also one of my favourites at the moment!
time signature is 5/4 x 5 then 6/4 during the chorus. 26 beats total. 26 is dancier than 4. love it.
amazing guitar in this song! this town needs guns are my favourite band at the moment didnt think these guys would be on here!
An amazing song, I absolutely love it. Maybe, does anyone know what it is about? I can only guess that the protagonist is not happy about a matter that is not mentioned in here.

I'm pretty sure it's about the protaganist going out on the town with a girl he's known since childhood and noticing how they've changed from when they were 4 to the point they're at now, aged 26 and yearning for the simpler times of their childhood.

That's how I read into it anyway and I think it's absolutely heartbreaking.

I think it has to do with time signatures. 26/8 time signature in the last bit.

ihave3pennies explaination makes sense as the 'math rock' genre tend to experiment with different time signatures and in this case 26/8 is 'dancier than the typical 4/4 beat used by a lot of artists

I don't think its about a childhood friendship.

The lyrics seem to say that the persona is tired of going out to the same clubs with the same people and the same music.

or
it could be that he is just miserable at that time, like when you get drunk and start to notice all the dumb things your friends do and it annoys you so just have to go somewhere else, but in a few hours you've forgotten all about it and you wanna go out with them.
I think its a combination of NateChai's and mattgill1992's interpretation. Also I think he is saying how enjoying things like being with friends has changed from when they were younger into a more cynical and critical experience,

This is probably one if my favourite songs ever. Musically, the song is incredible. The singer's voice is unbelieveable and the guitar and drums are superb. But it is how much I can relate to this song that really gets me. I always draw a contrast between what my life is now and what it was. I am 18 and I often go into town in the evening with friends and this song totally reflects my thoughts.
Discussing feelings like these is extremely raw and honest subject matter when you consider the lyrical content of a lot of mainstream music nowadays which entails "partying hard" or "living for the weekend." 26 Is Dancier Than 4 is so brilliantly honest and well written. I will go back to it for the rest of my life because of what it means to me.
I just found this town needs guns this morning, and this has already become one of my favorite songs
I must admit I wasn't too down with the title of this song before I counted it out. I think the writer is surely using a double meaning between the numbers of timing and respective ages he's reflecting on. He's thinking about how they've grown so much much but progressed so little, and feeling discouraged by that. I'd like to point out that its one thing to use odd timings and cut/paste beats in songs, it's quite another to make it sound a gorgeous as this, every member of this band gets an A+ in my book for techinical skill, Not to mention writing and arrangment. Plus draws spirographic images on my eyelids when I close them.
