I think the song is about a very strong and successful person returning home to a funeral and realizing how fragile life is and breaks down.

I think the raindrops represent people (funeral) and places (home town) dying, one at a time. He has become a strong person but the raindrops keep falling quickly and build up in his hand. Eventually it all gets to him and he breaks down.

correct me if i am wrong but i do believe this song is called "From the Stars", i love this song along with white lies, can't wait for their album!
I've heard different people call it different things, and i've seen it tagged differently in different places, so i was going to go with this title!
Good that you put the song up, but now the album is released the official title is just 'From The Stars'. Lyrics look correct though, so i'm pleased.
This song has been said by Harry McVeigh/Jack Lawrence-Brown to be about a washed-up celebrity who visits his home town to attend the funeral of a friend.
I'm not entirely sure what the "shivering on the bedroom floor" part is about, or what relation the deceased has to him.
Hopefully someone can shed more light on this.

This sounds like a person who was once a nice/happy/kind or whatever person, and thats who the writer of the song knew. But now it seems he has completely changed. He seems empyt, alone and emotionless - "He didn't cry when the preist gave the sermon". I think possibly "Driver, what happened to these buildings they all look so run-down and so forlorn" could be a metaphor for himself and he's wondering what happened to him and why he's become this person. He obviously dosen't like the person he's become - "shivering on the bedroom floor" as in he's just broken down and depressed. And also with "it reminds him of how he falls" The celebity part as someone said before makes sense with the whole penthouse, gold watch thing. The reason this person has changed so much is because of his money and fame.

This song is definetly about a man who is now famous, considering the fact that he 'took the time out to be seen' and how he seems too busy to be there. He is obviousy haunted by his home town, "they remind him how we fall/from the stars back to our cities where we've never felt so small" because it reveals to him what he has turned into, "he sees how quick the water's raising as another raindrop lands" "Driver what's happened to these buildings?/ They all look rundown so forlorn Two things wondering about is, does he kill himself in the end? The do not disturb sign fit me thinking, and some poisons leave you shaking... The other thing is, could this be a sort of dramatized autobiography?
