Neon Tiger Lyrics
CORRECT LYRICS:
Far from the evergreen of old Assam Far from the rainfall on the trails of Saigon Straight from the poster town of scorn and ritz We bring you the wilder side of gold and glitz
Run, neon tiger, there's a lot on your mind They promised just to pet you, but don't you let them get you Away, away, away Under the heat of the southwest sun
You took to the spotlight like a diamond ring You came from the woodwork with the hopes they might Redeem themselves from poor decisions to win big
Run, neon tiger, there's a lot on your mind They'll strategize and name you, but don't you let them tame you You're far too pure and bold To suffer the strain of the hangman's hold
I don't wanna be kept, I don't wanna be caged, I don't wanna be damned, oh hell I don't wanna be broke, I don't wanna be saved, I don't wanna be S.O.L. Give me rolling hills, so tonight can be the night that I can send them upon a thousand thrills Mister, cut me some slack, 'cause I don't wanna go back, I want a new day and age Come on girls and boys, everyone make some noise!
Run, neon tiger, there's a price on your head They'll hunt you down and gut you, I'll never let them touch you Away, away, away I'm begging you neon tiger, roar
Under the heat of Under the heat of Under the heat of the southwest sun
Neon Tiger There's a lot on your mind
just wondering, what does S.O.L mean? i probably sound like an idiot but yaknoww

actually, it never says i'm begging you neon tiger, roar it actually says i'm begging you neon tiger, run it wouldn't rhyme otherwise and also, it just doesn't say roar good job though, serously this guy needs to change it from "So I gone" to "saigon" I'm glad you did re-write it.

Also, I have a feeling this song is about The endgangered golden cats in saigon, as in the place. Neon tiger -> golden cat, it just makes sence and also they are constantly being taken and put in zoo's and shows and they are...

This song is about the myth of Las Vegas.
In the first verse, the song draws a portait of Las Vegas vastly being different from remote areas of the world where time had stood still. The song states that Las Vegas draws poeple in by the supposed glamour and glitz.
In the chorus, a warning is issued, heeding people not to get caught up in myth of Las Vegas about getting rich. The neon tiger represents the hunger of the young peoples and their preceptions of Las Vegas.
In the second verse, this becomes very clear about the myth of getting rich in Las Vegas:
"Came from the woodwork with the hopes they might Redeem themselves for poor decisions to win big"
The breakdown in the song breaks the 4th wall by vocalizing the oppositional veiw of the warning. The breakdown represents us falling into the Las Vegas myth.
no man no!!!!!!!i think the neon tiger represents the everyday man, which is always drawn into the society...it's like when they manage to lure you it's really hard to get out'like in a cage.they always promise the best for us''promised just to pet you''until we find out that everythingthey promise is a lie and has no value at all,so we mustn't let them affect us...instead,we must ''roar''back at them and try to make thinks wright..in short,i think it's a call for freedom and revolution... i don't understand the first lyrics, though.

I actually agree. I saw an interview with them and they said this whole album was about the myth of vegas. All of their albums are about Vegas in some way shape or form.

What does S.O.L. stand for?
Shit Outta Luck
Shit Outta Luck
SOL stands for Shit Outta Luck.
Also songmeanings is bullshit cos it takes ages to correct the damn lyrics. Best bet is lyricwiki dot org as it's updated instantly.
i think more than being about vegas, it's about flowers specifically. i look at him as the "neon tiger" and he's talking about his rise to fame and then about the negative criticism he got for sam's town from certain critics (ahem rolling stone, who i usually love but did not give the album a good review). especially when he says "mister, cut me some slack cuz i don't wanna go back i want a new day and age" i think he's talking about how a lot of people responded negatively to their new sound on that album, but while hot fuss was an amazing album, they were ready for a new sound and don't want to just reproduce the same music over and over.
love him, love the band, love day and age.
keep on rockin' brandon :-)
Imo, this song describes the Siegfried & Roy Tiger incident. In 2003 Siegfried and Roy were performing as usual at the Mirage in Las Vegas. All of a sudden, Montecore the tiger just went beserk and mauled Roy Horn. As a result, he suffered massive blood loss and a stroke. To this day, Roy defends his precious pet's actions as being nothing more than an effort to protect him from some imagined danger.
Perhaps Montecore was simply tired of being "caged" (captive) in the "Southwest sun" (Nevada). Perhaps he acted out of instinct defend himself from some imagined danger ("run neon tiger, there's alot on your mind"). The "boys and girls" (the audience that evening) "made some noise" (screaming in horror at the mauling). When Roy was en route to the emergency room, sources say his first concern was that his cat not be euthunized ("I'll never let them touch you").
Since then, although Roy still raises tigers, he no longer performs in front of an audience. Montecore the tiger has officially retired from the stage ("mister cut me some slack, I don't want to go back").
Lol, please don't flame me. I do tend to think too deeply at times. :P
Piggybacking off of my previous comment..forgot the MOST obvious thing about the song. The title "Neon Tiger" = Montecore's career in glitzy neon Las Vegas.

i love you. I thought this exactly. Well I'm lying, not exactly, but I thought of the Tigers kept captive in Vegas, I'm getting a neon tiger tattoo on Friday for my birthday. Thanks for this wonderful reply. Yours truly, another deep thinker x

It's definitely not "strategize" but rather "they tried to cut you down and get you"
the song isnt necessarily about las vegas just because they have neons. its about the rise to fame and the problems that come along with it like people trying to change you and use you for money. dont let them tame you is an example of how its not about vegas but about not losing your personal identity

Okay. The second line of first verse is rather clearly "Far from the rainfall on the trails of old Saigon" - Saigon the Vietnamese city. It then makes much more sense with the third line.

Run Neon Tiger, there's a price on your head.....favorite line. I think about someone being used for someone elses profit maybe?
"To suffer the strain of the pain that’s old???" is "To suffer the strain of the hangman's hold," I think.
