The battle between what WE see in the mirror and what is actually there. Tragic superficiality and the painful realization that we cannot change who we truly are, no matter what trendy jewelry we wear or what disgusting place on our bodies we choose to pierce next.
The last verse makes me think of the classic poem by Dunbar, in which the first line is "We wear the mask" and that pretty much goes hand-in-hand with this song. Your face is just a mask - you may be a perfect ten but one of the ugliest of God's science projects on the inside.
