Transatlantic Flight Lyrics
Did I meet you, baby, on a Transatlantic Flight?
JFK to Heathrow in the middle of the night.
And if I am mistaken you must let me know.
I'll take your leave and away I go.
Ooh.. Ooh..
Ooh.. Ooh..
Taxi down the runway and sail into the sky.
I thought I caught your eye then, you seemed a little shy.
The captain's on the radio, he says "buckle your seat tight"
"There's nasty weather; we're in for a bumpy flight"
In the event of a moral landing,
You can use my body as a floatation device.
It's getting cold now,
You can use my body as a floatation device!
Headline of the paper reads a tragedy,
A fire in the night over the Nova Scotia sea,
There's no survivors, no signs of life are found,
The ocean will be witness to what has just gone down.
Did I meet you, baby, on a Transatlantic Flight?
The one that disappeared there in the middle of the night,
You know I loved you, baby, though I never got to show you,
Seems we've an eternity for me to get to know you.
In the event of a moral landing,
You can use my body as a floatation device.
It's getting cold now,
You can use my body as a floatation device!.....
Everybody's dead,
Everybody's dead,
Everybody's dead,
Everybody's dead,
Everybody's dead..
JFK to Heathrow in the middle of the night.
And if I am mistaken you must let me know.
I'll take your leave and away I go.

This song is kind of depressing
It's actually a "water landing" not "moral landing" and yeah that one's probably my favorite off the new cd.Sounds like he's talking about two strangers on a plane that crashed trying to get to know one another in the afterlife.Electric Six don't get enough credit as musicians.Probably because of all the humor in their songs, but they have great beats, can really play and Dick Valentine is a really clever lyricist.Seen them perform in Chicago a few nights ago and they ROCKED!!!!!,
among the band's best work, in my opinion
Terribly romantic and chivalrous Dick Love at first sight Cut short by a crash but continued in the afterlife
I'm pretty sure that the events in this song are a reference to Swissair Flight 111, which crashed off the coast of Nova Scotia in 1998, killing everyone on board (source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swissair_flight_111)
The line "The headline in the paper rings of tragedy, a fire in the night over the Nova Scotia sea" is probably the best evidence for this; Flight 111 went down just off the coast of Nova Scotia, at approximately 1:00 AM. The line "JFK to Heathrow in the middle of the night" either supports or denies this idea, depending on how you look at it... JFK Airport was involved in Swissair Flight 111, except that the flight was actually going TO JFK, not from it, and Heathrow wasn't involved in any way as far as I can tell.
So yes, the "JFK to Heathrow" part doesn't really add up, but everything else points to either a reference to Swissair Flight 111, or a ridiculously crazy coincidence.
I grew up in Halifax, and I was about 10 years old when this happened so I remember that night pretty vividly. This is probably my favorite song from the new album, and I'm curious to find out if that's actually what they are referring to...
My mistake, the flight actually did depart JFK and was heading for Geneva... so perhaps the Heathrow reference is actually a mistake?

I'm getting all sad studying the occurrences in the crash :(
I can't describe enough what a wonderful band Electric Six is...
just a minor note. Despite the word, it's actually spelt flotation device. Not an attack, I just find it interesting.
And yes, awesome awesome song. Great follow on from Graphic Designer, which is pretty damn good too
(But what E6 song isn't rad?)
