Happiness Is Overrated Lyrics
And speaking of
Little Miss Catherine
I feel swell, oh well
Because losing you
Was something I always...
Did so well
I guess I just can't tell anymore
And the feeling I get when I see your clothes
Spread out on my floor
Oh, I'm such a bore, I'm such a bore
I don't do anything anymore
I just count these ceiling tiles falling through my floor
Sorry, I really lost my head
I'm sorry, I really lost my head
But you know those words that you said
They get stuck here in my head
And this feeling I dread, it makes me wish I was dead
Or just alone instead, I'll be alone instead
I don't need anyone in my bed
Just these ceiling tiles falling through my head
Sorry, I really lost my head
Oh, I'm so sorry, I really lost my head
Oh, those words you said
Little Miss Catherine
I feel swell, oh well
Because losing you
Was something I always...
I guess I just can't tell anymore
And the feeling I get when I see your clothes
Spread out on my floor
Oh, I'm such a bore, I'm such a bore
I don't do anything anymore
I just count these ceiling tiles falling through my floor
I'm sorry, I really lost my head
But you know those words that you said
They get stuck here in my head
And this feeling I dread, it makes me wish I was dead
Or just alone instead, I'll be alone instead
I don't need anyone in my bed
Just these ceiling tiles falling through my head
Oh, I'm so sorry, I really lost my head
Oh, those words you said

I think the singer is in an on again-off again relationship where the girl can't seem to make up her mind on whether she wants to be with him or not. So he's lost in his feelings and confusion, he doesn't know if he wants to be with her still or just be alone. He can't quite stop thinking about all the things she's told him over the course of their being together and its making him crazy.
It makes me think of two people who are sleeping together, even though they are no longer a couple, and he wants to go back to her, and knows that she doesn't want it.
i'm with willow. he's losing enthusiasm in the relationship because of it's reoccuring break-ups. he knows he wants to be with her, but it's all repetativeness. and maybe not taking her back this time will help him clear his mind up.
are we sure the lyrics aren't "sorry, i nearly lost my head"? i thought for the longest time that he was saying "really" and not "nearly" like these lyrics say, but when you listen closely, i've gotta say it sounds a lot more like "nearly." if that is the case, then it throws another perspective into the discussion of this song's meaning.
According to the CD lyric booklet, the word is "merely..." "I MERELY lost my head..."
Make of that what you will.
sounds to me like a girl said i love you, and now he's "lost his head"
I went to their concert and he said that he had recieved a phone call from his ex "Catherine" who told him that she was getting married. And I think this is his shock and surprise at the news he recieved.
And the verse where he says "seeing your clothes spread out on my floor" he's remembering the heated sex that they had when they were younger and together.
in fact i'm pretty sure the first chorus is "i nearly lost my head" and the second chorus is "i really lost my head."
my favorite part of this song is the fact that it starts with the word "and," indicating that this is just a continuation of his ranting and talk to himself. this isn't an isolated episode, it's part of a much larger picture. beautiful.
Actually, I stand a bit corrected. In the first chorus, it's "merely," but in the second it's "really".
I've seen many instances when the cd booklet has typos or something. They're not super-paranoid when they type them out, you know. Anyway, does anyone know why the song is called happiness is overrated?
