Don't Think I Don't Think About It Lyrics
I left out in a cloud,
Of taillights and dust.
Swore I wasn't comin back,
Said I've had enough.
Saw you in the rearview standin,
Fadin from my life.
But I wasn't turnin round,
No not this time.
(chorus)
Don't think I don't think about it.
Don't think I don't have regrets.
Don't think it don't get to me,
Between the work and the hurt and the whiskey.
Don't think I don't wonder 'bout,
Coulda been, shoulda been all worked out.
I know what I felt, and i know what i said...
But don't think I don't think about it...
When we make choices,
We gotta live with them.
Heard you found a real good man,
and you married him.
I wonder if sometimes,
I cross your mind.
Where would we be today,
If i never drove that car away.
(chorus)
Don't think I don't think about it
(chorus)
Don't think I don't,
Don't think I don't...
Of taillights and dust.
Swore I wasn't comin back,
Said I've had enough.
Fadin from my life.
But I wasn't turnin round,
No not this time.
Don't think I don't think about it.
Don't think I don't have regrets.
Don't think it don't get to me,

I've been a huge fan of Hootie & The Blowfish for over a decade. This song just helps carry on their heartfelt messages. I, like many others, have imagined what could've been/should've been. Regrets just are a part of life and should be used as a learning block in order to make ourselves better overall. The past is always there, nothing will change that. You just have to grow/learn from that experience. Here's hoping Darius success with his new CD.
This is a great song! Everyone goes through that phase of wondering what would be if they hadn't broken up with their ex and that's what this song it about.
I listen to hootie and the blowfish all the time and i was flipping through channels and landed on cmt and i seen darius rucker singing this song...i never knew he would solo on country but im glad he did...beautiful song about regrets from past relationships.
BEAUTIFUL SONG, and I don't think this one needs any explanation of the meaning... the song says it all. I think anyone 18 and older has more than likely experienced the meaning of this song. I've heard it over and over, but for some reason a few weeks ago, I was driving down the road, this song came on, and I lost it... but I have to agree with bg831347, the past is the past... we just have to grow and learn from the experience.
i was flipping past CMT and this song immediately brought tears to my eyes. i broke up almost a year ago, he was the one who "knows how he felt and knows what he said". i had just managed to stop the tears and this brought them all back.
The perspective of the songwriter represents a very mature reaction to large/small regrets he has while pondering a past relationship. He starts by telling the story of the final moments of his doomed love affair, then explaining that he has regrets when going through his daily life. He also explains that he wonders what their relationship might be like in the present-day. The narrator is content with the past, but just can't help thinking about the past.
i'm far too proud to admit this, but it is so true
