Falling Down Lyrics

The summer sun, it blows my mind
Is falling down on all that I've ever known
Time will kiss the world goodbye
Falling down on all that I've ever known
Is all that I've ever known

A dying scream makes no sound
Calling out to all that I've ever known
Here am I, lost and found
Calling out to all

We live a dying dream
If you know what I mean
All that I've ever known
It's all that I've ever known

Catch the wheel that breaks the butterfly
I cried the rain that fills the ocean wide
I tried to talk with god to no avail
Calling him in and out of nowhere
Said if you won't save me, please don't waste my time

All that I've ever known
All that I've ever known
It's all that I've ever known

Catch the wheel that breaks the butterfly
I cried the rain that fills the ocean wide
I tried to talk with God to no avail
Calling my name and out of nowhere
Said if You won't save me, please don't waste my time

The summer sun, it blows my mind
It's falling down on all that I've ever known
Time will kiss the world goodbye
Falling down on all that I've ever known
Is all that I've ever known

Okay noone has the lyrics exactly right yet.

This is as appears in the CD booklet and to my hearing is correct (it also makes more sense than most I've read). The line "in time we'll kiss the world goodbye" is written like that, but the "in" seems to disappear on the record:

The summer sun that blows my mind Is falling down on all that I've ever known In time we'll kiss the world goodbye Falling down on all that I've ever known Is all that I've ever known

A dying scream makes no sound Calling out to all that have ever known Here am I, lost and found Calling out to all

We live a dying dream If you know what I mean All that I've ever known It's all that I've ever known

Catch the wheel that breaks the butterfly I cried the rain that fills the ocean wide I tried to talk with God to no avail I called him up in and out of nowhere Said if you won't save me, please don't waste my time

All that I've ever known It's all that I've ever known

Catch the wheel that breaks the butterfly I cried the rain that fills the ocean wide I tried to talk with God to no avail I called him up in and out of nowhere Said if you won't save me, please don't waste my time

The summer sun that blows my mind It's falling down on all that I've ever known In time we'll kiss the world goodbye Falling down on all that I've ever known Is all that I've ever known

"noone has the lyrics exactly right yet" ??? Are you serious, they didn't even get close. I don't think they were even writing the lyrics to the right song. Yours are correct, though.

I think this song could be about an apocalyptic world. It refers to things 'Falling Down' (ending) and being 'Lost and found' 'Kissing the world goodbye' 'A dying scream' 'A dying dream' and finally 'talking to God but to no avail'......just my opinion.

Actual lyrics:

The summer sun - it blows my mind It's falling down on all that I've ever known Time will kiss the world goodbye Falling down on all that I've ever known Is all that I've ever known

A dying scream - makes no sound Calling out to all that I've ever known Here am I, lost and found Calling out to all...

We live a dying dream If you know what I mean All that I've ever known It's all that I've ever known

Catch the wheel that breaks the butterfly I cried the rain that fills the ocean wide I tried to talk with God to no avail Calling my name and out of nowhere Said if you won't save me Please don't waste my time

All that I've ever known It's all that I've ever known

This is my favourite song so far this year, and has got me back into Oasis, who continue to go strong even now (except when someone other than Noel writes the music - see awful previous single 'I'm Outta Time').

It's about feeling distant from your surroundings (both "lost and found") when you realise that your life (simply a "dying dream") is fleeting and unimportant in the grand universe.

The line "if you won't save me, please don't waste my time" is especially poignant, because Gallagher has stated in the press that he is an athiest, indicating that talking with God can help stave off the feeling of one's life inevitably ending, but in the end this made-up person just wastes time on this earth.

Then again, this is Oasis so it probably means very little. Doesnt matter, it's amazing.

My Interpretation

Some Noel Gallagher songs may mean nothing (see: 1998-2003), but there's no doubt this one along with many on Dig Out Your Soul do. And you're right, this song is definitely Noel talking to a God he doesn't believe exists.

P.S. - I'm Outta Time is a brilliant, brilliant song.

I think that this song is about the realization of life and death as viewed from the grand universe. The absolute inferior human life is really our most valuable and priceless expereince...but compared to the reality of the universe it is a paradox. "Time will kiss the world goodbye" and "a dying scream makes no sound" points out how insignificant we are. The setting sun "falling down" on him references the realization that the sun (as part of the universe) will outlive our dreams and make in lost in oblivion (connects to the "dying dream"). The other important line is that he mentions that everything is falling down "on all that I've ever known". This is a line from Hamlet in the grave digger scene where Hamlet ponders the fact that our ambition, lives, dreams, etc will be lost and forgotten to bones in the ground. He also says that all that he knows is everything he knows...meaning that his knowledge is his downfall and he can never progress to anything greater than his mortal world. In the chorus he metnions this with the reference to God and how he still is worthless and will eventually be lost in time.

Out of all the lines...I think "Catch the wheel that breaks the butterfly" does refer to the quote of Alexander Pope's Epistle to Dr Arbuthnot(the wheel was a torture device and he said be mentioning that it is overkill to use the wheel on something as helpless and small as a butterfly) It sets the tone for the song...he is saying to catch the torture wheel of death on something so insignificant like a butterfly (and he refers to himself/humanity as the butterfly). The "wheel" I believe could be the attempt that everyone one tries to imagine and fabricate in their lives to reach a state or postion that will outlast a mortal and insignificant life...or it could be the fate of the world. Regardless, our conscience and world will fall down on us...

That's really, really good

This is a remix by the Chemical Brothers. Still, Noel's singing sounds as terrific as ever.

Um the song itself is amazing but the lyrics themselves? Fucking brilliant. This albums gonna sound like revolver did compared to the other beatles albums before it. They truly are the best band in the world today and only England knows it.

Correction - There is quite a lot more to this song than what is above..I've put down what I can hear, it may not be 100% so if anyone can help me out

A setting sun that blows my mind Is falling down on all that I've ever known Time to kiss the world goodbye Falling down on all that I've ever known Is all that I've ever known Is all that I've ever known

A dying scream, it makes no sound Calling out to all that I've ever known Here am I, lost and found Calling out to all

We live a dying dream If you know what I mean Is all that I've ever known Is all that I've ever known

Catch the wheel that breaks the butterfly I cry the name that fills the ocean wave

I try to talk the guard to no avail Calling my name out of nowhere If you wont save me please dont waste my time

Ooooh, is all that I've ever known Is all that I've ever known

Catch the wheel that breaks the butterfly I cry the name that fills the ocean wave I try to talk the guard to no avail Calling my name out of nowhere If you wont save me please dont waste my time

A setting sun that blows my mind Is falling down on all that I've ever known

Time to kiss the world goodbye Falling down on all that I've ever known Is all that I've ever known Is all that I've ever known

i think he sings "i tried to talk with god to no avail"

it sounds like it makes more sense with the theme of the song.
