Flatline Lyrics

she met him on a train
he didn't take his eyes off of her face
they talked for hours and as he smiled
she knew he was the one
too bad they'll never see each other again

way up high I see the rockets fire
their soot to the earth
they blacken her skies
pushed from the tongues of liars
I can hear her heartbeat still
and the kids will play even as it flatlines

don't take her
don't take her
don't take her from me

too bad they'll never see each other again

when I saw them live, the bass player said this song was about "putting others ahead of yourself".

this song reeks of heartbreak.....finding the one but losing them or having them taken from you... the line "I can hear her heartbeat still, and the kids will play even as it flatlines" seems to say it all....that love still lingers on, like the ghost of a scent, but it fades and finally dies and still the world goes on. A very sad song. Not sure I can see at all how it is about 'putting others ahead of yourself'...

ok...I can see 'nuclear holocaust' in this now....

on second reading the singer is an observer...NOT the one meeting a girl on a train. He sees the couple meet, he sees the 'rockets fire' and the line "I can hear her heartbeat still, and the kids will play even as it flatlines" is the earth dying and fading....NOT the relationship...and the kids continue to play unaware of the danger that will consume them. Quite dreadful really.

sounds like someone loves someone already but they are not together and the girl meets someone and he is begging the random guy not to take her away. ie old gf that the guy is still in love with.
