Here she comes
Silent in her sound
Here she comes
Fresh upon the ground
Come gentle spring
Come at winter's end
Gone is the pallor from a promise that's nature's gift
Waiting for the colour of spring
Let me breathe
Let me breathe the colour of spring
Here she comes
Laughter in her kiss
Here she comes
Shame upon her lips
Come wanton spring,
come for birth you live
Youth takes its bow before the summer the seasons bring
Waiting for the colour of spring
Let me breathe
Silent in her sound
Here she comes
Fresh upon the ground
Come at winter's end
Gone is the pallor from a promise that's nature's gift
Let me breathe the colour of spring
Laughter in her kiss
Here she comes
Shame upon her lips
come for birth you live
Youth takes its bow before the summer the seasons bring

It is a work of pure beauty. Pure humanism and harmony. It is the sound of nature's swelling tide. And when you see it in your mind, it is the colour of spring!
In my opinion, this *is the track of the record, from which the rest of the album revolves around. God bless Mark Hollis for his work, wherever he may be.
One of the best albums of the 1980s, from one of the most overlooked bands of the 1980s. Sure they had a hit like "It's My Life" but this is no one-hit wonder band.

Lots of depth and texture, and a beautiful rhythm section.

And I just love Mark Hollis' melancholy voice. degree7, check out his solo album from a few years back. Might be hard to find.

Colour of Spring is an intensely personal collection of songs. I picked it up in the late 80s after my girlfriend and I had broken up. So my memories of it are tainted by my experience, as everyone's opinions are formed by their experiences.
I don't think there is any coincidence that "spring" is referred to here as a female with "shame upon her lips". There may have been another bad breakup here. The whole album is a journey thru sadness, maybe depression, with the final song "Time it's Time" as the upbeat pep talk to get on with life ("Rest your head").
April 5th is a song about waiting for a rebirth (like spring) to happen so the person can live again. He's going to make a simple start to just breathe, like taking in that first inhale of cold fresh air in the spring. The gray winter is over.
@tim1135316 No coincidence indeed: April 5th is the birthday of Mark Hollis' wife. Can a women a better declaration of love? I don't think so. But now she's widow, and it hurts so much, loosing such a great musician and a great man.
