yay! first comment!!!! is this about a relationship where neither person, or, just he doesnt have his heart in it? maybe a superficial one night stand if that makes sense. either way, maybe the couple got pregnant. And when they find out theyll sound every siren, break the door down to find the baby crying you thought i knew its just not right to tell a lie... and now theres no turning back, in the face of the sweat we share. makes sense i think! :]

I think personally that this song is about knowing the consequences of a relationship based on pure sex and nothing more, and just not caring.

"big hearts are meant for breaking" i think that is such a simple relateable lyric.

maybe a lie that weighs heavily on someone in a relationship...and they worry of when the lie will be discovered? He 'dug the grave' by telling the lie...but 'can't stand stepping inside' by telling the truth after the deed....the sirens could be his worry of things having gone too far in the relationship when its found out. Dunno...but its beautiful and sooo catchy i can't stop listening to it!! :)

"I kiss your neck but I just can’t look you in the eye" Woah, fantastic line. Really takes ahold of what most superficial relationships feel.

But, I agree with all of you. This song must be about a superficial relationship based on mostly sex. Maybe they're hiding their relationship? Maybe he can't take it anymore? He needs to say goodbye? Maybe we're all heart breakers when we can't turn back. Maybe this is what most American love is all about... sigh

okay i don't know if anyone else is as crazy as i am, but at like 2:45, right before the chorus, there is this drum thing going on that i am absolutely in love with.

and i love the line "big hearts are for breaking"

i agree with the whole sex based relationship idea.

Gosh I feel so weird commenting on these things!! Haha, But the way I perceived this was, this random like hook-up type relationship, where he knows it means nothing but feels bad. She gave her whole big heart to him, but again deep down he knows by continuing this sexual based relationship he is leading her on, but doesn't stop.

That part reminds me of the fact, that they've already been carrying on this way for a while so there is no turning back, but it is just become a burden for him to carry and think about.

to me, two lines really speak the most and are beautifully written:

You leave for college at the turn of autumn I spent the winter diving to the bottom

i just love that part. i'm not really sure what the song means but this part makes me think about how his girlfriend is going to college and he's not and he misses her and is depressed without her - "diving to the bottom"
