Feminine Effects Lyrics

Bobby, baby
You make me blurry
So blurry inside

I know I'm down home
But I always thought a limousine
Was something to be laughed at
Something to be laughed at

Bobby, baby
You make me blurry
So blurry inside

I know I'm not your cut
But I never thought I
Was just something to be laughed at
Something to be laughed at

I was a teenager when you
Took me from my mama's bed
And brought me to the real city
I tried my best to become
What I thought you wanted

Bobby, baby
You make me blurry
So blurry inside

I know I'm down home
But I always thought a limousine
Was something to be laughed at
Something to be laughed at
Something to be laughed at
Something to be laughed at

When he says "i always thought a limousine was somthing to be laughed at" then he changes it to "i never thought i was just something to be laughed at" he is compairing himself to a limousine. Why? I think it is because limousine are ridiculous, unessesary, and for people who like to show off. and now he is seeing someone (bobby?) react to him that way, as a ridiclous, unessesary artist/musican who shows off with his stage apperance and his music.

and this upset kevin because he never thought of himself like that. And he is letting that one kids impression of him get to him.

He was young and sheltered. Bobby was "sophisticated," took him to the big city. He wanted to please Bobby. He tried his best to be what Bobby wanted. But he couldn't help but be himself, and to him Bobby's lifestyle was not a good fit. And he felt that he wasn't up to Bobby's standards, too. He didn't make Bobby's high style "cut."

So, he let himself show, he laughed at the limousine, the limousine lifestyle perhaps.

He was sorry. He just snickered at a thing: a pretentious thing. But Bobby laughed at HIM. He never thought that he was something to be laughed at....

My Interpretation

No comments??? This is one of my favorite Of Montreal songs, sound COMPLETELY different from all their other songs.

I saw Kevin do this acoustic last year, and he said he, "Imagined a young girl living in Wyoming singing this".

Very intriguing and unlike any of their past work. It's brilliant and the lyrics are very chilling, as Barnes is so adept at accomplishing. I can't find any references in this one, though, which confuses me, because theres definately room for them...

Has anyone seen Steven Sondheim's Company? The phrase "Bobby, baby" is a recurring musical and lyrical motif throughout the whole show. Just thought this was worth noting, considering how theatrical Kevin is.

Also, interesting how the words "feminine effects" appear elsewhere on Skeletal Lamping (on the song "Plastis Wafer"). And how the "eagle-shaped mirror" apperas on both "Women's Studies Victims" and the b-side "Alter Eagle."

Funny how this whole project is intertwined.

Sounded kinda like a reaction to Lana Del Rey and her hollywood sadcore
