Shallow Grave Lyrics
Come see the ripples on the water
As I throw pebbles in the pond
To let the sky go past its surface
Empty my pockets filled with stones
My pockets filled with stones
Come see the sadness of the sailor
As I will scratch his deep blue floor
Already in my years of bad luck
Oh, I broke his mirror long before
Oh when I dive into the water
I've raised the bottom to be saved
It's just a shallow grave
I found the darkness in my neighbor
I found the fire in the frost
I found the season once claimed healthy
Oh, I need the guidance of the lost
But when I dive into the water
I've raised the bottom to be saved
It's just a shallow grave
'Cause when I dive into the water
I've raised the bottom to be saved
It's just a shallow grave
It's just a shallow grave
As I throw pebbles in the pond
To let the sky go past its surface
Empty my pockets filled with stones
My pockets filled with stones
As I will scratch his deep blue floor
Already in my years of bad luck
Oh, I broke his mirror long before
I've raised the bottom to be saved
It's just a shallow grave
I found the fire in the frost
I found the season once claimed healthy
Oh, I need the guidance of the lost
I've raised the bottom to be saved
It's just a shallow grave
'Cause when I dive into the water
I've raised the bottom to be saved
It's just a shallow grave
It's just a shallow grave

I see Christian imagery in this song, and Tallest Man not being saved. He has emptied the rocks out of his pockets, and raised the bottom of the ocean to make it easier for him to be saved (baptized). But when he goes into the water, no one baptizes him, it's just a shallow grave.
He found the darkness of his neighbor (Christians), and now he needs the guidance of the lost.
Love this song. Probably my favorite of his.
I think he says "I found disease in what's claimed healthy"
Death, rebirth, and renewal perhaps? It's just a shallow grave as in, easy to rise out of?
'Cause when I dive into the water I've raised the bottom to be saved It's just a shallow grave
Reminds me of a Thousand Ways off his latest album, where the narrator also fancies himself as some kind of savior.
