I think this song is possibly about a girlfriend or a friend who is a girl that is being forced to be something she is not. Kind of like she is a pageant girl and doesn't want to be but her mom makes her?

To me, this has a feel of going to a psychiatrist (Come on in, take a seat, tell Mr how you feel this week), and resenting it after; seemingly because they feel that they've become weaker in the process by passing of the responsibility of "raising themselves"(I made you, dressed And trained you ... 'Cause now I own you.). I don't think this song is about a dominant person having control over someone, but I think the "I" thinks that they're being made weaker by having a dependence on someone else. The verses seem to be someone counseling someone else; it's all said as advice. The chorus on the other hand seems to have a darker tone to it. To me it sounds like hes busy hearing a voice telling him that he's being repressed (But the voice takes on the the role of the counselor in his head), even if the counselor legitimately wants to help them.

I also like the bar/alcohol theory. It wasn't the first thing I thought of, but it makes sense throughout the song.

This like others on the album has to do with the mind in my opinion. This one is based on someone who has a ton of emotional baggage and is letting it overwhelm them. The first lines refer to coming and and taking a seat and how are you this week...sounds like its referring to a psychiatrist or therapist to me...

The song reminds me of using willpower and breaking through all of the crap that can weigh you down if you don't let it roll off your back and keep going. It can apply to soldiers too; from the "baggage" they are bringing back because of what happened in the war or it could apply to others with emotional problems caused by letting life get the best of them.

Instead of letting life get the best of you, he is saying get the best of life. Don't let it win, fight back and you will overcome it....at least that's my opinion.

I know this is an older song, but I personally think, while unlikely, that this could be based around a basis of hypnosis, or rather the miss use of it. Around this time, many court cases of hypnosis being used as a tool for rape were popping up. The first couple of lines, "Come on in, take a seat. Tell me how you feel this week. Are you cursed? Are you blessed? Are you still inside the mess? All those feelings wrapped around you, Hold you down so you can't break through," could be in the sense of someone performing hypnotherapy.

What really makes me think this are two particular lines in general. Those lines are "Are you cursed? Are you blessed?" For those of you who aren't strangers to erotic hypnosis know where I'm going (no, nothing is going to be explicit). For those of you who are completely out of the loop, there are certain files labeled as "Curse" files, and on occasion, people also call the "Blessing" files. This could be a hint towards a hypnotherapist taking sexual advantage, or meaning to later on.

To further the evidence, the line "It don't burn; it don't bleed," is another way of using hypnosis in a therapeutic way. Hypnosis can be used to lessen pain and heal injuries faster.

My last bit to add is the lines, "Hey, ce la vie. Remember me? I made you, dressed, and trained you." "Ce la vie" is French for "This life," which in of itself isn't too suspicious, nor enough to properly come to a conclusion. But if you add in, "I made you, dressed, and trained you," you've cast, sink, and bait (is that right?). These are generally messages used in erotic hypnosis files to show the hypnotist's dominance over the hypnotee, as a form of objectification (usually it's enjoyable for a willing subject). Not to mention that there are also slave hypnosis files, some are frankly labeled as "training" files.

Of course, it's all a simple theory of perverted hypnotherapists taking advantage of their patient (though I do have some pretty solid evidence, including dates when these were becoming popular cases: around the time the song was released), as that's apparently a thing many people believe to be possible. Hypnosis isn't an assertion of one's will unto another, as it needs both parties to be consensual throughout the entire process, regardless of how good the hypnotist is at his/her art.

This song is about finding someone and you build a relationship with them and all there problems that were holding them back are now gone because of you. Although, as time goes on they start to change and he is saying don't forget who made you who you are today. Kinda dominating by saying now I own you but thats just my opinion.

It sounds a lot to me like a torturer talking to the prisoner. There seems to be a lot of references to water boarding, especially in the second verse.

The song seems to be about someone passing judgement on another person or simply re-asserting their domination on the other (the song feels like it could have something to do with military training, being able to go through with a tough situation).

"Tell me how you feel this week. Are you cursed? Are you blessed? Are you still inside the mess?" -The first part seems to be about revealing the person's present weakness - being emotional to the point of being lost in a sort of mess.

"All those feelings wrapped around you. Holds you down so you can't break through" -The emotions are keeping this person from becoming the best that they can possibly be. Perhaps they are broken by their emotions or the cause of the emotions.

"Its a trap, so don't ask. Its a shadow on your back. It don't burn, it don't bleed. Still it'd cut you at the knees" -The dominating person passes judgement and tells the person that these feelings will trap you and will bring you to your knees. Or the other needs to toughen up.

• C'est la vie is translated as "such is life" which sends the message that these emotions are normal and everyone makes mistakes, but I made you into my image, I trained you to uphold this image. You can't get yourself out of this and you can't suck up to me/I won't go easy on you because I won't accept it - I'm going to go tough on you so that you will realize your potential, so show me how tough you really are,(in other words I own you).

Reading the lyrics slowly it actually seems like the song is about drugs and alcohol.

The first verse sounds like alcohol. Come on in, take a seat (at the bar) Its a trap because it kills pain but makes more and cuts you right down to size.

The second is marijuana Take a breath hold it in. (Smoking a blunt) Then passing it around to all your buddies till it comes back to you.

Third could be just another shot of alcohol to chase everything else down. Time is up, take a shot cuz your story is all you got. (All the drugs and alcohol have left you with nothing so all you have left is the story of what you had)

The chorus is like it all talking to the user, not 100% on the first half, but Strip down Show me flesh and bone 'Cuz now I own you. They all go straight to the core and take you over. (Addictions)

Just what came up in my mind...

I always thought this song was about drugs. You know how Brent Smith was addicted to Oxycontin and stuff before he had his kid. When i listen to it, i think of it as saying addiction to drugs totally overpowers the rest of your life. i never ever thought of it as being about a relationship.
