Defenestration Lyrics

You want to walk straight down the line
I just sashay from side to side
Coming at you from behind
Coming at you, all scissors and knives
All shadows and lies
You want to walk straight down the line
I just sway from side to side
Coming at you like some tattered corpse bride
Coming at you, so stand aside
I'm coming through, if you don't mind
I do remember the room underneath the bell
We held hands in the stairwell
Hummingbirds followed me at school
At least that's what you said
That's just like you
It didn't matter if it was true
Things were just better inside of you
And I was never the same
That's when everything changed
So now I see him standing there at the window
Oh, he's so sweet
I want to love him
I want it so
But when I reach for him
Out he goes
I see him standing there at the window
I come up behind him, all hustle and flow
I rustle the dust around him
And out he goes
Out you go
I could say I'm surprised but it wouldn't be true
'Cause it happened last time to the one before you
So step away from the gash
I'm coming through

I beieve that the poor girl has had a prior love affair that turned out badly. She is coming up from behind a new lover but she is thinking about the previous affair. Somebody that she had quite fallen for. She is telling him she does remember that time. He had filled her head with flattery but now she realized that he would say anything..

"It didn't matter if it was true".

I think he broke it off with her that day.

"And I was never the same That's when everything changed"

She now sees the new "lover" standing at the window.

"Oh, he's so sweet I want to love him I want it so But when I reach for him Out he goes"

She could only have one true love. She tried but this guy was a poor substitute. It was tragic how he was just standing at the window and fell.. all on his own.

But of course this poor guy was not the first to have a fall.

"And out he goes Out you go"

Anyone who has the misfortune to touch her "gashed" heart is in for a nasty fall. That day at the bell tower they had held hands and he had told her flattering tales. They climed the stairs to the top of the tower. Once there he told her he was just joking. He didn't really love her. It had all been just a game. The words ripped through her and in reaction she pushed him out the bell tower window.

So how many "befores" there were is unclear. But she does at least leave any future suiters with a warning.

"I could say I'm surprised but it wouldn't be true 'Cause it happened last time to the one before you So step away from the gash I'm coming through"

Hrm...nice try Kalki, but I think you have to look a little deeper. I mean come on! This is Hannah Fury! Listen to the tone of the song...sweet..yet sinister. The question is WHY does she "defenestrate" these lovers? Your version doesn't explain why she would have even let the second (or is it the twentieth) guy get close to her. I mean, if she really loved the first one, she could have just worn black the rest of her life. She wouldn't have WANTED to love the next guy..."I want it so".

So, why does she do it? Why else? They aren't good enough for her. Maybe they're ugly. Maybe she's ugly and can't attract a good-looking guy. Maybe she is very beautiful and is so in love with herself that nobody she finds is good enough for her. Maybe she is just ugly inside, demented, and can't accept...can't STAND... that anyone could love her.

She seems to fondly remember "the room underneath the bell", holding hands, talk of hummingbirds...perhaps her first experience of "love".

Alas..."Things were just better inside of you"...Better inside of you than inside of me? Or, better inside of you than outside of you? I think the former. Maybe he was too GOOD for her.

"That's when everything changed" Of course! Pushing someone who loves you to their death...now that's a life-changing experience. Probably made it easier the next time though...even necessary.

She obviously isn't going to settle for someone who "wants to walk straight down the line" and is "so sweet". So, my advice: don't turn your back on this girl.

Addendum: She isn't capable of love. "I just sashay from side to side." It makes her uncomfortable when someone expresses love for her. So, she gives them a little shove. It's easier than trying to explain...

Lol Ok I admit that my "theory" has some holes in it.

I think that the possibility that He broke up with her is a little shaky. I believe the song shows she did love him and it seems that he was showing affection for her as well.

Ahhh OK. They were to be married. He was filling her full of love talk that day underneath the bell. He was not lying to her but was just being creative with his compliments. In his eyes hummingbirds really did follow her everywhere she went. Ugly no. She must have been ravishing. They did climb to the top of the Bell Tower. There he was at the window. Looking out... maybe leaning out.. and Out He Went. She didn't push him but was traumatized by what happened. Her Love.. Out The Window.

So he is gone and there is a new "love" at the window. She had tried to love this guy but could not. She wants love... the love that she had lost. She was to have been a bride... but now she is but a "Corpse Bride".

"Coming at you like some tattered corpse bride Coming at you, so stand aside"

So maybe now all men need to beware. She tries to love them but in reality she is meaning to do them harm. To pay "mankind" back for the loss of her true love.

"Coming at you from behind Coming at you, all scissors and knives All shadows and lies"

Walking straight down the line could very well be referring to walking down the marriage isle. They want to marry her but she has something else planned.
