Your Birthday Song Lyrics
He was sitting on the back porch singing, "You're My Only Sunshine"
Swinging to songs only he heard in his head
Now he's cutting paper swords from boxes to hang inside his room
And watch 'em spin into the wind above his bed
Singing "Take me down this road I'm on
It's late and I don't wanna go alone.
Take me down this road
I won't be scared, 'cause we can't be scared."
And I'm searching for a sign that you're still here
And I'm alright but now I'm down here on the ground
I think I'll pray
'Cause Tallahassee's fine but, Dad, I miss you all the time
And I know you're going, but not too long
And I hope you fucking love your birthday song
If you'll take me down this road I'm on
It's late, and I don't wanna go alone
If you'll take me down this road
I won't be scared, 'cause we can't be scared
It's 4:09, west over by a hill
There is some clover and a bridge where my father lets me play
And I was taking it for granted
You were there to hold my hand and say,
"Don't worry, son, 'cause this will be okay."
If you'll take me down this road I'm on
It's late, and I don't wanna go alone
If you'll take me down this road
I won't be scared, 'cause we can't be scared
Ohhh
Singin' take me down this road I'm on
It's late, and I don't wanna go alone
If you'll take me down this road
I won't be scared, 'cause we can't be scared
Swinging to songs only he heard in his head

Oh my god this band is sooo bound for fame. I love Jason's voice in all of the songs he sings!
This song is about his Dad. "'Cause Tallahassee's fine but, Dad, I miss you all the time" His dad died, recently. As many of you know he used to be in the "Mayday Parade", he was song writer/singer. As many of you don't know, the REAL reason her left is because his dad died. He wanted to postpone the band for a couple months until his dad felt better, but the members of mayday refused. They wanted to continue on the journey to stardom. Kinda makes you hate mayday huh? Not only that but their new album is written by song writers, hence why they haven't had a new album in a while. I'm not saying I hate mayday, i just love old mayday, the one WITH jason. But yeah, this song is about his dead father, and how he misses him. I love this song. Jason's lyrics are amazing.
how do you know this? Jason posted on absolute punk: "This is Jason Lancaster of Go Radio ex mayday parade. I just found out about this thread and wanted to straightne some things out. First off, I left mayday for a lot of reasons, the least of them was katy. You guys should know things about this band that I can't tell you, but believe like I do that they are all good at heart, just a little misguided at times. I started go radio because I love playing and recording music, and because I love interacting with you guys. People that...

I started go radio because I love playing and recording music, and because I love interacting with you guys. People that care about music even if its not music they like. I will always make music, and hopefully you will always be able to hear it. But in the case things don't work out know I am so happy that I could share with all of you. Mayday was a big part of my life but ask them next time who wrote the album, I bet my name doesn't come up. Or why I am off the bio completely, or maybe how I am denied credit in the album for writing anything. Or maybe ask derek how he can take credit in so many publications and reply to me "I understand if this means we can't be friends anymore" when I asked him about it. Ask jake how easy it was to write me off when I had no more chorus' for him. We had been playing together for 6 years. I'm not bitter anymore and all will heal with time, but know the bands you love, and know they aren't always what they seem."
soo pretty sure its not about his dad.. perhaps not the main reason anyway
oh my god, this song made me cry. obviously it's about his dad. i mean, he makes that pretty obvious with the "'cause tallahasee's fine, but dad i miss you all the time" and although my dad is still alive, i moved out last june and i miss my family so much. fortunately for me, i have the option to see them whenever i'm off of work and have gas in my car. i guess i'm just all super sensitive 'cause i found out today i can't go home for thanksgiving.
anyways, great song. i heard jason was in a new band and his voice was the reason i decided to listen to mayday parade in the first place, so i wanted to give it a listen. didn't disappoint.
In response to what Jasstash said about the new Mayday CD being written by song writers and not the band, first off where'd you get that from? and second I'm pretty sure that isn't true, if for no other reason then after the band got slammed for making the "Kids In Love" video they explained why they made the video that way because of what the song was about and how they wrote it and it was about shit that happened in their life, so pretty sure what you said isn't true
Oh My Damn this song so beautiful it brought tears to my eyes when I first heard it. This song is obviously about his father's birthday after he died and much he misses him.
I was at his concert in Little Rock and he explained this song is obviously about his dad, but the neat thing he said is his dad wrote It's 4:09, west over by a hill There is some clover and a bridge where my father lets me play And I was taking it for granted You were there to hold my hand and say, "Don't worry, son, 'cause this will be okay."
in case he ever got lost. Fantastic concert!
