Song We Sang Away Lyrics
We say we try
To say goodbye
But it's harder than we thought
And it's harder than we want
It's alright
It's alright
So my friends
Well they call me on their phones
And say Luke is dead
It's the worst thing that I've known
It's so hard to be alone
It's alright
It's alright
Time can't stop the soul
I became the void you couldn't know
So I'll trust that the reason you became afraid
Was the same old song we sung away
We only feel
The way we do because
Because is just another word
For what it was
And I know that you are gone
But just know I wrote this song
It's for you
It's for you
Time can't stop the soul
I became the void you couldn't know
So I'll trust that the reason you became afraid
Was the same old song we sung away
Hey, Montana
How are you?
Hey, Montana
I miss you
Hey, Montana
How are you?
Hey, Montana
I miss you
Hey, Montana
How are you?
Hey, Montana
I miss you
To say goodbye
But it's harder than we thought
And it's harder than we want
It's alright
It's alright
Well they call me on their phones
And say Luke is dead
It's the worst thing that I've known
It's so hard to be alone
It's alright

I'd say friends drifting away and eventually passing away. The lyricist finds out and is depressed. Meanwhile, another friend pushes him away fearing the hurt of losing another. That's just my interpretation. I love LVD, no surprise bout the lack of comments. This awesome band doesn't get nuff credit.
Anyone notice the lyrics above have an error? When his friends call on their phones they say, "Luke, he's dead."

Luke is Lucas Field the LVD singer who wrote the song. And he does tell audiences the song was written for his best friend. A friend who obviously died.

I would like to know the connection to Montana. Luke's friend was from Montana? They had shared memories of Montana?

I agree. It seems to me that this song is about depression, whether it being about an actual person or that person is a metaphor for something else (although, he does sing "just know I wrote this / it's for you"), this is such a beautiful song. I am also a huge LVD fan and this is one of my favorites of their songs. This needs to get out there. Kudos to Letterman for putting the band on his show.
i saw them live tonight. they were amazing. but he said that this song is about his best friend, which is so so sad.
