Souled Out!!! Lyrics
The barrio starts two streets over
Miguel, he’s a friend of mine
With brick weed built a reputation
Like dry ice in the summertime
Now all you need is an electric razor
A magic bullet in a grassy knoll
The whole world is just a little oyster
To snow white and the poison apple leaves
I woke up in the age of wires
I fell asleep at the dusk of man
Now I’m cold as Popocatepetl
Fingers crossed in the promised land
But you won’t be getting in
No you won’t be getting in
No you won’t be getting in
All sold out
In heaven
The barrio starts two streets over
Monse, she’s a friend of mine
Keeps a piece like a whistleblower
Flying kites in the wintertime
Magic carpet is the transportation
Went to the moon in a soda can
Not all my boys believe in science
Stretching truth in the promised land
But you won’t be getting in
No you won’t be getting in (you know by now)
No you won’t be getting in (you know by now)
It’s sold out
In heaven
Chorus again, or another one?
Another one
El Popocatepetl está dormido pero pronto despertara
You know by now
That you won’t be getting in
No you won’t be getting in (you know by now)
No you won’t be getting in (you know by now)
It’s sold out
In heaven
No, you won’t be getting in
To heaven (you know by now)
To heaven (you know by now)

So you dilute it with stupid comments?
I just edited it, and I don't have the liner notes, but if it really says "El Popocatepetl esta dormido pero pronto despertara," there must be some sort of typo, it's missing an accent mark over está at least, that's the only way it makes sense. My spanish sucks, though, so who knows.
I dont think he says leaves at the end of "To snow white and the poison apple leaves" I think he says leaves but is a bit late on the pronunciation of the 's' I dont really know, its just how I hear it.
Live only for yourself! Keep the expectations of others out of your mind! Just ride your bike and listen to that loud music. SING SING SING YOUR HEART OUT! DANCE DANCE DANCE UNTIL YOU FALL OVER LAUGHING!
Who want's to go to Heaven anyway? I like it here. I think I'll make this my place.
I love this song, I'm excited for this album. I don't really have much to say about it, I think that what it's about is pretty obvious, but I love the upbeat music behind it. Brilliant.
this song is about having to much fun and not getting into heaven. there are drug references all through it. bricked weed, magic bullet (what you keep and snort coke out of), to the moon in a soda can means you get high by smoke whatever out of a can instead of a pipe or a bowl. snow white? oyster (oxycontin). Maybe its just me but it seems like you have to know by now your not getting into heaven if your hanging out in mexico doing drugs. if you dont believe in science that is, which conor does and doesn't care if heavens all sold out.
i thought his comment was quite amusing
My favorite song on the album. Seems to be about not worrying about constantly aspiring to some lofty goal (like getting into heaven). The sold/souled play on words is pretty clever.
@ splitintwo: the magic bullet line is not a drug reference, it's a reference to the kennedy assassination.
Theorists say there could have been another shooter on the "grassy knoll". If not, Oswald would have had to use a "magic bullet" because the prez was hit from a different angle than where oswald was standing.
I think this song is really interesting -- there's a lot of mystical & religious themes (aside from the souled out in heaven) and I love how some of these things really contrast each other ...
I'm going to take a stab at this, but I think maybe he's trying to emphasize his contrast to his surroundings in Mexico AND his not fitting into Heaven. For instance, he's living in Mexico ... he's friends with Miguel, they're smoking Mexican brick weed and he's building this "reputation" of being this cool guy from the states even though his appearance (pale skinny guy long hair etc) is so much different from theirs and would normally keep him apart.
And there are all these lines like, "Like dry ice in the summertime" OR "Flying kites in the wintertime" which are just kind of contrasting things. putting out dry ice -- which creates all that smoke because of its extremely cold temperature, in the summertime. and then flying a kite in the wintertime, which just seems like a bizarre statement in itself -- it seems like such a summer/spring activity to do -- it seems out of place -- just as conor is in mexico. just as conor would be in heaven.
But I think this place he's found here mexico just really suits him ... the song is just littered with all this mysticism, "Magic carpet is the transportation Went to the moon in a soda can" ... And I think it has more in it than conor and his hard partying ways and not getting into heaven, etc etc -- because that's all so surface level. I just feel like like if we really look at this song and everything from snow white and magic bullet line to stretching the truth to the promise land ... there's a rather surreal but deep statement here.
