Paper And Words Lyrics
I calculated all that was said
With pencils and paper
Up to my head
Til I'm covered in lead
Did i really think it would work like I planned?
Like I planned
It's all so bad
We built this house
On paper and words
The thought of it breaking sounded absurd
So here's to the dreams
We watch shatter before our eyes
And here's to perfection
Laced with compromise
We built this house
On paper and words
The thought of it breaking sounded absurd
Unheard of
Take a breath and close your eyes
Walk by faith into the night
Take a breath and close your eyes
Walk by faith into the night
With pencils and paper
Up to my head
Til I'm covered in lead
Did i really think it would work like I planned?
Like I planned
It's all so bad
On paper and words
The thought of it breaking sounded absurd
We watch shatter before our eyes
And here's to perfection
Laced with compromise
On paper and words
The thought of it breaking sounded absurd
Unheard of
Walk by faith into the night
Take a breath and close your eyes
Walk by faith into the night

This song is speaks of us drawing out plans for our lives with "pencils and paper." We think it will go exactly as we plan but the thing is, God has other plans for lives. We tend to make plan our lives and leave Him out of those plans. Although our dreams and plans shatter, perfection remains in what ends up happening in our lives because it is God's will. It's "perfection laced with compromise." Instead of trying to draw out plans for our lives in advance, we need to simply walk by faith and trust God's perfect will for our lives.
This all has been very true in my own life.
This one's an early demo that was recorded before "From The Inside Looking In"
I really like it.
