Poet Lyrics
My only weapon is my pen
and the frame of mind I'm in
I'm a songwriter
A poet
I'm a songwriter
A poet
And the things I flash on everyday
they all reflect in what I say
I'm a songwriter
I'm a poet
I'm a songwriter
Oh yeah, a poet
and the frame of mind I'm in
I'm a songwriter
A poet
I'm a songwriter
A poet
And the things I flash on everyday
they all reflect in what I say
I'm a poet
I'm a songwriter
Oh yeah, a poet

On the face of it, appears to be a very simple song by Sly about himself. But I can't help thinking there HAS to be some sort of statement made in a song that is all about him being a poet/songwriter, and then running out of words less than halfway through the song.
Anyone?
All is not well, and he is letting us know in an indirect way - he says he's a poet and a songwriter, but here there is virtually no song and not much poetry either. There could be any number of reasons why (can't write, doesn't want to write about what's on his mind, etc.), but whatever the reason is, it's not good.
