Navy Sheets Lyrics
I guess we met a couple a bona-fide angels
But they all seemed kinda fat and fatigued
And now we're trying to match their mouths to the screens
Match their heads to their dreams
Everybody's searching out the softest seat
All dolled up for the funeral feast
Everyone's stabbing at the biggest piece
Clever kids kissing on a bleak retreat
Now I'm not really sure we were lovers
Or if it was just some kind of car crash
And now we're trying to find a DNA match
To match their heads to their hats
Everybody's reaching for the sharpest knife
Legs wide open on the opening night
Everybody's bathing in the laser lights
Clever kids screwing with some new device
Sunday morning, sidewalks flattered
Feverish in stylish tatters
Damn, this used to seem like grammar
I remember when it mattered
Can't get over what's transpired
Left home virgins, came back vampires
Built it out like back-scratched choirs
Really dead or really tired
Everybody's coming on their navy sheets
Everybody's coming on their navy sheets
Everybody wants to suck on something sweet
Everybody's coming on their navy sheets
Everybody's coming on their navy sheets
Everybody's coming on their navy sheets
But they all seemed kinda fat and fatigued
And now we're trying to match their mouths to the screens
Match their heads to their dreams
All dolled up for the funeral feast
Everyone's stabbing at the biggest piece
Clever kids kissing on a bleak retreat
Or if it was just some kind of car crash
And now we're trying to find a DNA match
To match their heads to their hats
Legs wide open on the opening night
Everybody's bathing in the laser lights
Clever kids screwing with some new device
Feverish in stylish tatters
Damn, this used to seem like grammar
I remember when it mattered
Left home virgins, came back vampires
Built it out like back-scratched choirs
Really dead or really tired
Everybody's coming on their navy sheets
Everybody wants to suck on something sweet
Everybody's coming on their navy sheets
Everybody's coming on their navy sheets

I hear: "All dolled up ..." "clever kids kissing on a bleak retreat" "Damn, this used to seem like grammar"?
i think the (?) is : "clever kids screwing with some feel-good bites"
Yep, that sounds good to me, coopv's lyric didn't sound quite right to me.
is this song as sexual as it seems?
Lyrics correction: "we're either dead or really tired" rather than "really dead or really tired" and "trying to match their mouths to their screams," not "screens" "everybody's stabbing at the biggest piece" not "everyone's stabbing at the biggest piece" and "Sunday morning, sidewalks splattered," not flattered, which would make sense, given his penchant for mentioning blood or fights every few songs. And partying. So the sidewalks are likely splattered with blood AND vomit from Saturday night's "massiveness." Sorry, one more: "didn't this used to STING like grammar," instead of "damn, this used to seem like grammar."
Yeah, I don't know if it's just my dirty mind or what, but this song seems incredibly sexual.
should it be "belt it out like back-scratched choirs" instead of "built it out..."?
makes more sense. since it's a choir and everything. just sayin'
"Belt it out like back-scratched choirs" is right, it's a reference to "Same Kooks" off Boys and Girls in America:
"The scratches on my back had formed into a choir and belted out a chorus"
GOD, I love this band.
ha, i actually think its "clever kids screwing with some new device"
