Hollowpoint Sniper Hyperbole Lyrics

Thoughts seem to stumble out of my mouth
I can’t seem to stop and talk to them
Fear tries, to pierce the armour of truth
Hollowpoint sniper hyperbole

I can’t, seem
To follow a pendulum
And there must be organic cures for me
Report to base
Instrumental Case
Here’s the map to my oubliette

Once more,
I’m flying with Brian my friend
Hold me,
Bonavista baby
Moose meat,
Neighboured a medley of beans
Screech me

I’s the boy that built the boat
I’s the boy that sailed her
I’s the boy the sunk the ship
You’re the one that saves me,
With love

You make me flow
You help me to grow
You make me glow
You help me to know

Moose meat, Neighboured a medley of beans

I hope the real words are more like Lose me Neighbourhed a medley of being

Didn't like the song when I first heard it. Now I think it is awesome.

Nope. It's definitely Moose Meat, neighboured a medley of beans...

They're just throwing Canadian references out there

Its more specifically a Newfoundland reference,

The "I'se the b'y" lyric (as it should be written) is from the song titled I'se the b'y, a Newfoundland folk song.

Bonvista (place in Newfoundland)

Screech me (Screeh is a Newfoundland run, Screech me is well,.... just google that one)

Moose meat,... Anywho, I looked these guys up and it says they are from Toronto. Why the Newfoundland referencing?! Where's the connection, anyone?!

The singer was living with (and dating) a girl in Newfoundland and he looked in the cupboard to find pickled moose meat next to a can of beans. It inspired him to write the song. He's said this both in interviews and as a pre-song story on stage.

I took this to be about schizophrenia... Schizophrenics are unable to track smooth motion, such as the movement of a pendulum. This interpretation is furthered by the following line pertaining to organic cures (medication rather than psychotherapeutic treament). With this interpretation in mind, the rest of the song is a medley of disconnected thoughts and reminiscences which might characterize the consciousness of a schizophrenic patient. But I'm a psych student... I see psychological references in everything.

My Interpretation

Have you thought about what the song title means in relation to your explanation?

Hint: The song title is an esoteric reference to the cause of schizophrenic behavior - or more precisely hypervigilance which is often confused with schizophrenia

Let's analyze the song title, "Hollowpoint Sniper Hyperbole"...

Hollowpoint = A hollow-point bullet is an expanding bullet that has a pit or hollowed out shape in its tip, often intended to cause the bullet to expand upon entering a target - it's intended to cause maximum damage to a "target".

Sniper = No explanation required...

Hyperbole = The use of exaggeration as a rhetorical device or figure of speech.

Now, let's think about this more closely. The song title isn't meant to be taken literally - it's a metaphor for someone being targeted by a "sniper" or a "person causing harm". The "sniper" could be a person spreading lies and harsh words about the "target" - hence the term "hyperbole". The nasty words or lies are meant to be the "hollowpoint bullet" and the person spouting the nastiness is the "sniper". Get it now?? This type of behavior is known as mobbing when it involves 2 or more people and causes the target to become hypervigilant which looks similar to schizophrenia - but it's artificial schizophrenia meaning that they aren't hearing voices but experience similar symptoms (can't follow a pendulum, disconnected thoughts due to psychological trauma).
