His family, while normally a source of comfort to most, is a source of dismay. People talk about how much their family means to them and how happy they are, but he can see that this just isn't in his future. I like the dad line, maybe something along the lines of both him and his father are too proud to fix the situation. So he just stops trying to find that sense of community in his family and turns to his friends, which I assume is meant by the maples. And if that doesn't work, is there really a point in living?

First off, I love Have Heart. They're easily one of my favorite bands.
I didn't know the music I listened to now while I lived in Massachusetts but I have so much pride in not only everything from Boston but the music from there especially. I'm not the type of girl that "looks" like she listens to music, but I know Have Heart, and this is one of my favorite songs by them. I feel like I can relate to it a lot for family reasons and its just a plain good song.
