Shape of My Heart Lyrics
Oh when I look to the shape of my heart,
It's separated only by scars
That cut in and cut out
Oh and leave me without
Oh a heart that functions at all.
And when I look to the shape of the sky,
I give thanks for this hollow chest of mine;
That I no longer feel
The great weight of ordeals
That can make this life so unkind
Oh and if there's any love in me,
Don't let it show.
Oh and if there's any love in me,
Don't let it grow.
Oh when the wild was all covered by snow,
I forgot the colours that the grass tend to grow.
Oh the trees were all leafless,
And lifeless and black,
And I wondered if the leaves could grow back
For your heart is like a flower as it grows,
And its the rain, not just the sun that helps it bloom,
And you don't know how it feels to be alive,
Until you know how it feels to die
Oh and if there's any love in me,
Don't let it show.
Oh and if there's any love in me,
Don't let it grow.
Oh and if there's any love in me,
Don't let it show.
oh and if there's any love in me,
Don't let it grow.
Oh and if there's any love in me,
Don't let it show.
oh and if there's any love in me,
Don't let it grow.
It's separated only by scars
That cut in and cut out
Oh and leave me without
Oh a heart that functions at all.
I give thanks for this hollow chest of mine;
That I no longer feel
The great weight of ordeals
That can make this life so unkind
Don't let it show.
Oh and if there's any love in me,
Don't let it grow.

Oh and if there's any love in me,

Don't let it show.
oh and if there's any love in me,

Don't let it show.
oh and if there's any love in me,
Don't let it grow.

Nooo, you guys have it all wrong.
Yes, the guy's been hurt before. He thinks that he really doesn't want to fall in love again, but against all odds, he does.
He sings "If there's any love in me, don't let it grow/ and if there's any love in me, don't let it grow" with entirely the wrong tone for it to be taken literally. He's saying these things, but he doesn't mean them. He's really ecstatic to be in love, he just won't admit it to himself, yet.
I am completely and utterly just blown away by these guys.....every.damn.time.
best song on the album...and its a great album. sheck out the music video on youtube, i love it.
:)
looooooooove this song. my fave by noah and the whale :) think its about a boy with a crush maybe, i dunno.
i love this song greatly :) i think its about someone who has been hurt many times in love in previous relationships leaving him with "scars" and has left him feeling empty ("hollow chest of mine") and pessimistic within his outlook towards love.
he doesn't want to get hurt again so avoids showing his true feelings but concedes that getting your heart broken is just part of life and the bad things that happen help to make you who you ultimately become; "Its the rain not just the sun that helps it bloom"
so all in all a happyish song :)
this song is about being scared to truly give yourself to anything, because once we commit ourselves into believing in things like love we ultimately don't possess all the power and therefore can come to know sorrow. but is there any other way to live? we can only acknowledge and appreciate joy by experiencing contrasting emotions and by taking chances.

One correction... When the world was all covered by snow. Awesome song anyway. I dont think its about falling in love. Its about being numb from all the pain of break ups and not wanting to find love again because the pain of a break up is not worth it. And when I look to the shape of the sky, I give thanks for this hollow chest of mine; That I no longer feel The great weight of ordeals That can make this life so unkind...
I think this song is about someone who has been through a really horrible breakup.. and while he has moved on there are still residual feelings for his ex. feelings that he is trying his very best to suppress and extinguish. hence 'oh and if theres any love in me, dont let it show. oh and if theres any love in me, dont let it grow.' because he knows any love that regrows on that toxic land is doomed to fail again, no matter how promising it may appear to be
it's rather the contrary i think.. this guy's been hurt badly before but looking back he's really grown from it. 'for your heart is like a flower as it grows, and its the rain, not just the sun that helps it bloom' he understands that you have to go through the heart breaks and bad times to become a stronger person ;) ultimately this dude does wanna love again.. he's just afraid of the fact that he could actually be in love and is reluctant to acknowledge it because of what he's been through
