The Escapist Lyrics
And in the end
We lie awake
And we dream of making our escape
And in the end
We lie awake
And we dream of making our escape
We lie awake
And we dream of making our escape
We lie awake
And we dream of making our escape

This is a good ending track. I love the strings.
I think its talking about death which is very fitting because on one side of the album it is life (Life in technicolor etc) and at the end its death.
And of course the "escape" is death.
I like it. Uplifting sound.
actually the album's about death, love, war and the french revolution, hence the french war dresses they wore during viva la vida and death to all his friends tours.

The song to me is about death. Since most songs on the album are about war, I think it's about someone who lives in a war, and who sometimes wishes to escape from this terrible life by dying.
The song that came before, "Death and All His Friends" is very loud, and can be interpreted as the same person who has lost friends and family in the war, and who's trying to escape from the war, but then in this song he realizes that there's no point in living and carrying on. He "awakes".
A touching out-track. Optimistic.
Definitely a good song. I like how the album comes full circle, even though it is a slightly overused concept. I do think that ending on "Death And All His Friends" would have made for a stronger ending but that's just my humble opinion. Still a good song.
Remind anyone else of this?
"And in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make"
Chris Martin also stated in an interview that Violet Hill is a street near Abbey Road, so... more parallels.
This is definitely a nod to the penultimate track on Abbey Road, the portion entitled 'The End.'
This is an awesome way to finish. I love this album but it just didnt QUITE blow me away like Rush of Blood and X and Y did. I think the one thing the album lacks is a long song, nothing on Viva la Vida is over 4:10! Compare that to ROBTTH and most songs are 4-5 minutes or more! I just feel like the songs finish before they really get into it on Viva la Vida.
hey also, does anyone know why in the lyrics booklet they have some lyrics and song names that arent even in the album, not even as hidden tracks?
This was an epic ending to a Coldplay album. This and Amsterdam. Gives me the chills.
a fantastic ending, perfect way to end the album.
