Last Mistake Lyrics
Tracing the silver lines of the moon with our eyes
We both knew it was time
With your finger you traced every line, every angle of my face
Never wanting to leave this place
Time took its toll and we lost any thought of control
We once had before closing the door
This was going to be our last mistake
A quick inhale
A fast intake
We tried to take it slow
But no
It wasn't an option in our state of mind
Anything that was left was left behind
We are the only ones who knew this kind of love
I promise you this
Skies above had nothing to do with it
No, no
With the war all around
There was no other sound
And our eyes they were stung
By the light of the sun that was fast rising
I grabbed your hand in mine
Our fingers intertwined
Any face that we saw was so unrecognisable now
And we didn't know how
Every familiar thing we once knew disappeared
I was trying to hear you through the crowd of people screaming
For their souls in a world they would obey you
And I looked the other way, knowing
We are the only ones who knew this kind of love
I promise you this
Skies above had nothing to do with it
No, no
This is gonna be our last mistake
We won't find out till it's too late
I wonder if she's gonna stay
I left before he was awake
We both knew it was time
With your finger you traced every line, every angle of my face
Never wanting to leave this place
We once had before closing the door
This was going to be our last mistake
A quick inhale
A fast intake
But no
It wasn't an option in our state of mind
Anything that was left was left behind
I promise you this
Skies above had nothing to do with it
No, no
There was no other sound
And our eyes they were stung
By the light of the sun that was fast rising
I grabbed your hand in mine
Our fingers intertwined
And we didn't know how
Every familiar thing we once knew disappeared
I was trying to hear you through the crowd of people screaming
For their souls in a world they would obey you
And I looked the other way, knowing
I promise you this
Skies above had nothing to do with it
No, no
We won't find out till it's too late
I wonder if she's gonna stay

I love this song! i have it on repeat. it's so beautiful and beautifully sang and written. i love hey ocean! i just saw them live last weekend it was amazing. if you ever get a chance to see them live go for it! it's show you don't want to miss.
The song is about them having sex and how it messed up their relationship. At least that's what i got from it. >_>
'Time took its toll and we lost any thought of control' I think it's 'any SORT of control'
I think this song may be about a boy and girl who fell in love during some type of war.
One of my favourite songs by Hey Ocean! I believe it is the song about forbidden love. In a broad sense, but probably it is very forbidden love in a society of this song heroes.
The pair in the song clearly state that their love is unique ("We are the only ones who knew this kind of love"). They began to meet in secret ("We both knew it was time" [to leave so no one would knew]), but soon they "lost any sort of control". As I understand it, their love was eventually discovered and they were attacked by society and moral defenders: "With the war all around There was no other sound"; "I was trying to hear you through the crowd of people screaming For their souls in a world they would obey". The problem with their love lies probably also in a religious context (that's why one of them tell another that "Skies above had nothing to do with it", and people screaming for their souls, not lives etc.).
Despite serious consequences for them the song implied (I think "The Last" part is here for a reason), both ("You and I") decide to "look the other way", not the way the society looks (i.e. toward "the world they [crowd] would obey"), and save their feelings for each other. That is how I see it.
I think it is a beautiful song, romantic, tragic and rebellious, all at the same time.
