Cast On, Cast Off Lyrics
If we keep in contact, will you stand by?
Bide no longer in these times
Look to see the progress
Keys are in line
I've not the things you've needed
Left parts behind
Retrieval on the sidelines
Cast on, cast off, bones will not bind
We've run atop my broken glass
This pain will not last
Your pains are from mine
But may we keep in contact
With no stand by
Don't you think it's too much like fire and ice?
Yours is home alone, while I watch the poltergeist
Too much like fire and ice
Yours is home alone, while I watch the poltergeist
(I've not the things you've needed)
Don't you think it's too much like fire and ice?
(Left parts behind)
Yours is home alone, while I watch the poltergeist
(Retrieval on the sidelines)
Too much like fire and ice
(Cast on, cast off)
Yours is home alone, while I watch the poltergeist
Bide no longer in these times
Look to see the progress
Keys are in line
I've not the things you've needed
Left parts behind
Cast on, cast off, bones will not bind
We've run atop my broken glass
This pain will not last
Your pains are from mine

With no stand by
Yours is home alone, while I watch the poltergeist
Too much like fire and ice
Yours is home alone, while I watch the poltergeist
Don't you think it's too much like fire and ice?
(Left parts behind)
Yours is home alone, while I watch the poltergeist
(Retrieval on the sidelines)
Too much like fire and ice
(Cast on, cast off)
Yours is home alone, while I watch the poltergeist

i like this song very much though i dont think i've really grasped the meaning here are my thoughts- its about a break up
he feels that he isnt good enough for her and there hasnt been any progress "Look to see the progress" "I've not the things you've needed"
however he wants to keep in contact any way possible "But may we keep in contact With no stand by"
fire describes how he feels about her and ice depicts her attitude towards him "Don't you think it's too much like fire and ice?"
shes doing just fine without him, but his world is chaos "Yours is home alone, while I watch the poltergeist"
im not sure what is meant by cast on cast of and some of the other things there someone pls explain :p
I think yer right, about it being about a break up. But maybe not that he's not good enough for her.

My interpretation is, He still wants to be friends with her, but "bide no longer in these times" could mean they aren't close as they used to be. He looks "to see the progress" that has happened since the breakup, and all that has changed between them. He didn't have what she wanted in the relationship, or vice versa, and that led to the breakup. "Retreival on the sidelines" means, the game (of their relationship) is over, and they're gathering their things. That...

"Retreival on the sidelines" means, the game (of their relationship) is over, and they're gathering their things. That belong to them before they started seeing each other, the dreaded "returning of property lent or given in caring." As for the title, I think he's saying "easy come, easy go", like a relationship like a shirt, is easily cast off, and poetically speaking, to put on a shirt is to "cast it on."
Fire and is is how different they were together. She watches a simple child's movie, Home Alone, while he's watching a horror movie, Poltergeist. It could also mean, home alone is about strangers breaking in to a house, and maybe he sees himself as breaking in to her heart, while now, his world is a nightmare, a borror, like in poltwrgeist.
Love the song. Has a haunting vibe. No pun intended (considering the poltergeist reference).
I wonder if the "yours is home alone, I watch the poltergeist" line is simply referring to the movies. Still fits with the break-up interpretation of the song. She likes Home Alone, while he prefers Poltergeist. It goes with the "fire and ice" image. They (the couple in the song) are very different. They have different tastes and needs that clash.
