I Won't Be Found Lyrics
Well if I ever see the morning
Just like a lizard in the spring
I'm gonna run out in the meadow
To catch the silence when it sings
I'm gonna force the Serengeti
To disappear into my eyes
Then when I hear your voices callin'
I'm gonna turn just inside out
Well if I ever get to slumber
Just like a mole deep in the ground
Hell, I won't be found
Deep in the dust forgotten gathered
I grow a diamond in my chest
I make reflections as the moon shines on
Turn to a villain as I rest
Well if I ever get to slumber
Just like a mole deep in the ground
Hell, I won't be found
I know there is a hollow
I need to fill it with a draft
Of all the words that I wont say
And with a quiet whisper
I send a curse upon the day
That never used the sun to see
The light
I'm gonna float up in the ceiling
I built a levee of the stars
And in my field of tired horses
I built a freeway through this farce
Well if I ever get that slumber
Ill be that mole deep in the ground
And I won't be found
Just like a lizard in the spring
I'm gonna run out in the meadow
To catch the silence when it sings
To disappear into my eyes
Then when I hear your voices callin'
I'm gonna turn just inside out
Just like a mole deep in the ground
Hell, I won't be found
I grow a diamond in my chest
I make reflections as the moon shines on
Turn to a villain as I rest
Just like a mole deep in the ground
Hell, I won't be found
I need to fill it with a draft
Of all the words that I wont say
And with a quiet whisper
I send a curse upon the day
That never used the sun to see
The light
I built a levee of the stars
And in my field of tired horses
I built a freeway through this farce
Ill be that mole deep in the ground
And I won't be found

I think this song is about drinking. To me it seems to cover some very specific aspects of drinking, primarily drinking away sorrows.
"I'm gonna force the Serengeti To disappear into my eyes Then when I hear your voices callin' I'm gonna turn just inside out"
That moment when you're taking a drink and thinking of whatever troubles are on your mind, you force them inside yourself. Then, when your friends get your attention, you go back to being a goof, to be happy go lucky for a few moments.
"I know there is a hollow I need to fill it with a draft"
I actually think "draft" may be a double meaning here
"I'm gonna float up in the ceiling I built a levee of the stars And in my field of tired horses I built a freeway through this farce"
The mist interesting line here is the last one. If you dont know what a "farce" is, look it up. He built a freeway, an escape, through a comic display of himself.
I think by "Wont be found" he means that in the morning, his troubles will be gone, he will have lost them.
This is just my interpretation of course, but t strikes close to home for me, drinking for the wrong reason and regretting it in the morning.
Its about becoming a pure being and merging with source/the absolute :)
Kristian said in an interview that this song was about running away. If you read it thinking about that, it makes sense. He's insecure and trying to be something else, to turn his life around.
There are several references in this song to the old folk song "I wish I was a mole deep in the groud." I heard Matt Costa play it live (and he gave credit to Bascom Lamar Lunsford) and thought HEY THAT'S FAMILIAR.
I think it should be "of all the words that I won't say" not way. Other than that it seems A-Okay.

"I wear my boots of spanish leather" same thing different song, diffenrent artist. Though it's not wrong, it's wonderful.

As malarky stated earlier, this song is certainly homage to Bascom Lamar Lunsford. In Lunsford's tune he expresses his desire to not only be a mole in the ground, but also a lizard in the spring. Awesome!
This song is obviously about running away, he even mention it in the first verse.
If i ever see the morning, just like the lizard in the spring is a swedish metaphor. During the winter lizards in sweden goes in to hybernation and in the spring they awake after three or four months of darkness, almost like a reincarnation.
During the sleepless nights of anxiety he feels as the morning will never come. And if it'll come he's "going to run out in the meadow to catch the silence when it sings". Preatty obvious that the silent meadow is a place where the evil thoughts during the night reach him.
And if you think in this paradigm you'll understand the rest of the lyrics.
Feel free to question this and i will return with an answer!

"Deep in the dust forgot and gathered, i'll grow a diamond in my chest"
I love this piece! It's a metaphor for his heart. A diamond is one of the hardest materials we know of, and he wants his heart to be as hard as a diamond to protect him from being hurt and resist anything from breaking him.
