Closer Than You Think Pt. 1 Lyrics
Every time I close my eyes
I think about the ones who died
Who had the book but never wrote it down
Who had the song but never made a sound
Every time I close my eyes
I think about our daily lives
A dying man in a living room
The suicide in a gorilla costume
Monday morning
Give us our razors
Feel like dying but
Monday morning
Give us our razors
Feeling like dying but
We'll just shave and go on
Every time I close my eyes
I think about our childhood friends
All the weddings and the drunken smiles
Shredded rainbows
They lined the aisles
Every time I close my eyes
I think about my daily life
My sun
my fate
my colors
my crimes
my razors
my times
my enemies
Monday morning
Give us our razors
Feel like dying but
We'll just shave and
Monday morning
Give us our razors
Feel like dying but
We'll just shave and go on
I think about the ones who died
Who had the book but never wrote it down
Who had the song but never made a sound
I think about our daily lives
A dying man in a living room
The suicide in a gorilla costume
Give us our razors
Feel like dying but
Monday morning
Give us our razors
Feeling like dying but
We'll just shave and go on
I think about our childhood friends
All the weddings and the drunken smiles
Shredded rainbows
They lined the aisles
I think about my daily life
My sun
my fate
my colors
my crimes
my razors
my times
my enemies
Give us our razors
Feel like dying but
We'll just shave and
Monday morning
Give us our razors
Feel like dying but
We'll just shave and go on

Still Life with Machine Gun

This song is about looking at your life and what it really means, which, when you come down to it, is not very much at all.
I think that this song is also about how even after one becomes concious of their life and how little they and the people around them really mean, they still move on. They (we) even continue to carry out tideous tasks such as shaving in the morning. There is no necessity to shave and there is no reason to continuously do so, similar to life at all. In the end we all die so we hope we can find the meaning in life, hoping to find it by following the same path that others take. Others who dont question their life or their very existence. We just go on. Hoping for maybe, just maybe, there is a point in us shaving. That maybe before we die or even after we die we had some sort of significant impact. When we already know that there is no impact, no aftershock, no meaning. So staying here, suffering, is just an unspoken favor.
