Keep The Heat On The Dash Lyrics

So
here we are
all alone and it's getting darker

I know i should get up and leave
cause I'm not thinking clearly
I know it's just so difficult
when your body is calling

I can taste your sweat, what am I doing ?
It's late and I know nothing good will come from this

I guess I should probably behave
but i don't want to tonight

I know i should get up and leave
cause I'm not thinking clearly
I know it's just so difficult
when your body is calling

I can't help but imagine what it would be like
which means that I, that I should be on my way

I guess I should probably behave
but i don't want to tonight

I know i should get up and leave
cause I'm not thinking clearly
I know it's just so difficult
when your body is calling

Now is the time when I show you I love you
one day we'll look back on tonight...

This song is about him getting hot and heavy with his girlfriend and he's thinking about having sex, but if he did that night then it wouldn't be special. So I'm assuming they (or at least one of them) is intoxicated.

It's his inner struggle (what he wants to do v.s. what the right thing to do is), and one that everyone will go through. He wants to have sex with her but he wants it to mean something, deep down he wants to wait.

"Now is the time when I show you I love you one day we'll look back on tonight..."

I think that means that when they finally DO have sex, and when it's meaningful, it will be even more special because she'll remember that he had a chance to take advantage of her but he didn't because he loves her so much, and that will make her love him even more.

Jella got it pretty much exactly right I've talked to Ryan about it, and he said that it's about showing restraint in those situations, and waiting for the right time.
