Evil Urges Lyrics

Honey it‘s rotten and they got us so scared
Thinking there’s some evil waiting under vain
Whooo! I made a nasty decision
To love whoever I want just-a whenever I can

Things they’re saying--
Evil urges baby; they're just part of the human way
It ain't evil baby, if ya ain't hurting anybody
Evil urges baby; they're now part of the human way
It ain't evil baby, if ya ain't hurting anybody, anybody

It's all the same, we’re tired of waiting come on then
And dedicate your love to any woman or man
No racial boundary lines, no social subdivisions
If you want it, you can

Well we're not saying, I'm not saying that I want it someday
Well we're not saying, I'm not saying that I want it somehow
Well we’re not saying, I'm not saying that I want it someday
Woo, I'm ready it for now (I'm ready for it now!)

Things they’re saying--
Evil urges baby; they're part of the human way
It ain't evil baby, if ya ain't hurting anybody
Evil urges baby come on; bad is all the same come on now
It ain't evil baby, if it ain't hurting anybody anybody

Evil urges baby, they’re part of the human way
It ain't evil baby, ’cause ya ain't hurting anybody anybody

this song sounds awesome! i can't believe i'm the first to comment. obviously it's about the urge to have sex. also about getting someone to relax their cultural taboos and think more open-mindedly. however, the fact that it's called Evil Urges makes it sound like he knows they are just looking for a way to justify something that is widely seen as unacceptable. very smooth, very catchy.

Its about not being afraid to be in love with whoever you're in love with because no matter how unacceptable people might see it as, or how many social taboos are on the relationship, in the long run you're not hurting anybody by being together, even if it feels like you are at first. You'd only be hurting yourself to not let yourself be with who you want to be with

Well put stranger.

Stranger, so classy.

There is a HUGE difference between not caring about a social taboo and treating the people who care about you most like dog shit. You most certainly are hurting people, it's not your imagination. Instead coming here the day after doing the dirty behind your fiance and your best friend's backs, to try and convince yourself you did the right thing, you could've been treating them with a little respect.

Haha mineonly, I'm guessing that this happened to you?

It's all gonna be alright pumpkin.

But don't lash out at people in a forum just because your personal relationships have gone awry. It's not our fault, it's probably something you did.

I agree with mineonly here, and he/she doesn't seem to be lashing out at anyone. The lyrics themselves say, "It ain't evil baby, if it ain't hurtin' anybody." Well, someone is getting hurt in the situation described.

"Do as ye will and harm none." When you make a commitment to be faithful to someone is IS hurting them and yourself (your integrity) if you break that commitment. This song is not promoting sexual infidelity - it is supporting people's rights to love whoever they choose if they would not be hurting someone. Mineonly - you deserve to be with someone who is REALLY committed to you if that is what you seek. When someone breaks their promise to you they are hurting themselves far more because they no longer are trustworthy nor do they...

ELE BABY

I love this song - the music, the lyrics and the message. This song is a message to the conservative Christian Right (and anyone else) who claim that homosexuality, mixed-race/class relationships are evil - an "abomination unto God." The message encourages people to stop being afraid to be open to love whomever they are attracted to, challenges the arrogant (vain) who judge others, and acknowledges the spectrum of normalcy inherent in human attraction and love. "Evil Urges" asserts that the time is NOW to let go of our judgements. The song seems to support free love (To love whoever I want just-a whenever I can)as well as long-term commitment (And dedicate your love to any woman or man.) The song admonishes us to let go of judgement of the choices others make when it comes to love relationships - as long as we don't hurt anyone. It reminds me of the creed "Do as ye will and harm none." Well said, Yim Yames and MMJ.

My Interpretation
Cover art for Evil Urges lyrics by My Morning Jacket

Frontman Jim James explained the title "Evil Urges" to AOL: "It's kind of all tied into religion confusing people's morality and people always wanting to think that something is either bad or good, whereas in reality I feel that most stuff is more confusing than that. So basically, it's about being confused and feeling that most people are searching for some kind of answer that sometimes people think religion can bring. And lots of times, people will do things that they think are good in the name of religion, but oftentimes they're destructive for the world, although people think they're really being good - or maybe they are being good, 'cause I'm kind of confused about the whole thing." James told Mojo magazine May 2008 that the album title was one of many on a sheet of paper, but was "winking its eye at me. Some people were concerned because they thought Evil Urges sounded like a death metal record. Once people hear it they'll realize it's kinda the opposite."
