Awake Lyrics

Man down
This hardened shell is broken
My fate is bound to what I’ve done
Regrets – I shuffle down the hallway
Precious time – It’s all gone overboard
Here is your calm down pill
I’ll never be the same – It’ll never be the same
With eyes wide open – My body’s floating down the river
This live – What have I confined you for? It’s all inside – It’s all in silence
When the raven gets its way
A Million thoughts are swept away
And then you leave it all
You leave it all behind

And maybe next time we’ll meet again
And maybe I’ll be less of a bitter man
When I feel more
I refuse to pay the ferryman – I’m so attached to my temple
He has to burn it down to get me
Ebony demon, shriek all you want – I’m not tagging along
The shade, the burning blackness – It is my protector
Fear before the fall – I can’t grasp it all
But at least I’m trying
A light, a smoldering cinder
Getting colder, ashen
And letting all this go
I’m not letting go
I’m not really done here
I won’t let go
Life’s to short to be wrong
And maybe next time we’ll meet again
And maybe I’ll be less of a bitter man
And if I could do it all over again
I’d be the same man all over again
When I feel more

I'd say it is about dieing. The protagonist very consciously experiences his death, he feels his life slipping away, but he doesn't want to die just yet. He tries to come back alive.

This sentence pretty much tells it all: Life is to short to be wrong

He doesn't want to die. And I agree with the text.

I agree with Thundermane. The narrator is refusing to die, he's aware that his life depends only on his past and future actions, and that what is done is done... but he seems determinate to take control of his life and resist. I really love this song, and lyrics are very good. I like all the metaphors to explain the concept.

It seems like he experienced some kind of anger or something that made him feel regret, wanting to hold onto life. Definitely about dying though.

I say contemplating suicide but then growing out of it through self-assertion.Finding the real values values in life and wants to hold on.

The lyricist has failed to recognize an opportunity and he's consumed with regret now that he missed out. He's been awakened and is hurt, but he can find solace that he will be a different person now that is feeling more and can unlock wonderful opportunities in his life. Now that he's had some introspection, he would like to feel more and come out of his shell but not be paralyzed by negative thinking and remorse.
