Fine Young Cannibals Lyrics
In this house
There's no order
There's no loss of love out here
If it's over
I know I called
Out to you
Something is haunting these four walls
You know it's true
I will crawl
Right back to you
Under the smoldering summer sky
I'll be there soon
I've been told
Of the new fast days
There's some room to breathe but I don't think twice
We'll be there soon
Well all that's a man
Has trickled out
Let me breathe
All that's a man
Has trickled out
Let me leave
All that's a man
Then we hold
My heart is clean
Like a crater of the moon
And the sea
Of darkling gloom
I'll be true
True to you
We may consume ourselves but I don't think twice
I'll be there soon, so
Well all that's a man
Has trickled out
Let me breathe
All that's a man
Has trickled out
Let me leave
All that's a man
Then we hold it
Uh oh, oh, there's nothing here
Uh oh, oh, there's nothing here, here
There's no order
There's no loss of love out here
If it's over
Out to you
Something is haunting these four walls
You know it's true
Right back to you
Under the smoldering summer sky
I'll be there soon
Of the new fast days
There's some room to breathe but I don't think twice
We'll be there soon
Has trickled out
Let me breathe
Has trickled out
Let me leave
Then we hold
Like a crater of the moon
And the sea
Of darkling gloom
True to you
We may consume ourselves but I don't think twice
I'll be there soon, so
Has trickled out
Let me breathe
Has trickled out
Let me leave
Then we hold it
Uh oh, oh, there's nothing here, here

this is my favorite song on the new album. i agree that after listening to many different wolf parade songs (including AMZ), i preferr Dan's singing to Spencer's. but i do love Spencer's singing, still; i just like it better on some of Apologies' songs and with Sunset Rubdown.
anyway, it's pretty clear that this song is about struggles in a relationship.
this song is absolutely amazing. i've just heard it for the first time and can't really digest it (currently digesting pizza and beer), but dan definitely wins on this album in terms of best songs (compared to spencer).
wow. that bit about the smoldering sun...
It's brilliant. I'm fairly sure at least some of this is wrong though (particularly 'I've got clean moon' - honestly the best I could manage) so please correct me if between the echo and dan's singing you manage to hear something more accurate.
Once again, brilliant.
yeah no idea what that bit about the sea is...
but i think the line further up is "there's some room to breathe but i don't think twice"
I prefer Krug to Dan, but I have to agree that Dan has the better songs in AMZ. I noticed that Fine Young Cannibals is also the name of a band. Anyone who listens to them know if this song has any connection?
I realize it's a matter of taste, but I strongly disagree that Dan has the best songs on AMZ. I feel the same way about them as I did with his songs on Apologies -- they're more accessible, immediately catchy, but don't hold up over time. Spencer's stuff only gets better with 10,20+ listens, in my opinion.
Anyway...yeah. "Fine Young Cannibals" is still a great song.
The connection between this and the actual band Fine Young Cannibals is in the harmony...as far as I can tell.
Listen to the last harmony on "All that's a man, trickle it out, let me breathe." It's extremely high-pitched, like many of the harmonies used by FYC in the early 90's.
I think it's "There's no room to breathe but I don't think twice." Maybe. This is my favourite song off of the album. It's amazing.
Also, the line could be "All that's in the mind". It makes more sense to me, anyway.
I honestly find this song about a relationship. "There's no loss of love out here If it's over" as if he's trying to work things out with someone but the love is just gone and he doesnt want to admit that it's over.
the four walls might mean himself.. him driving himself crazy about her, and him calling out to her knowing their just in a circle. he will crawl back to her, lookign vulnerable hoping somethign will change THIS time.
than he's told that he can trust her (ive been told there's room to breath..), and he knows that he shouldn't but he "breathes" hoping things will change.
it's like a mind game that he wants to play in and believe, and make it a reality. than he says he'll be true to her, and that they will "consume" themselves... maybe meaning that their just tearing themmselves up for each other.
than their almost there, but when they arrive there.. they find nothing. except the realization that it's over
