Floatation Therapy Lyrics

we have come this far
just crawling on our knees
standing in the wake
is just enough to feel scared
(of the aftermath)
'cause we are...

it's all gone dark
(twenty feet under ground)
are you still alive?

why don't you ever learn?
you just lost control
falling all the way down

i was carrying you
so your footsteps disappeared
save the bitter taste
for this emergency break
'cause we are..

it's all gone dark
(twenty feet under ground)
are you still alive?

why don't you ever learn?
you just lost control
falling all the way down

"i was carrying you so your footsteps disappeared" such a pretty line. i think this song is just about the end of the world and trying to find somewhere to go or something.

'i was carrying you so your footsteps disappeared' is a biblical reference i think. i'll post the whole thing when i find it because it's really relevant and then someone can work it out from there.

here we go:

One night I had a dream. I was walking along the beach with the Lord, and across the skies flashed scenes from my life. In each scene I noticed two sets of footprints in the sand. One was mine, and one was the Lord's. When the last scene of my life appeared before me, I looked back at the footprints in the sand, and, to my surprise, I noticed that many times along the path of my life there was only one set of footprints. And I noticed that it was at the lowest and saddest times in my life. I asked the Lord about it: "Lord, you said that once I decided to follow you, you would walk with me all the way. But I notice that during the most troublesome times in my life there is only one set of footprints. I don't understand why you left my side when I needed you most." The Lord said: "My precious child, I never left you during your time of trial. Where you see only one set of footprints, I was carrying you."

aw (: the bible is cute.

i'm pretty sure this is what charlie is referring to - i never would've thought of that really. thanks xkxhxbx. i guess this song is about the end of the world (as most of them are) and how their faith in God is helping them? i don't know. it's a tricky one.

To me it doesn't sound like it's about the end of the world at all. I've always thought that it perfectly describes trying to help an addict who is constantly relapsing. My friend is dating an addict who relapses at least once a month and I always know when he does because my friend listens to this song and says that it's speaking to her. The lines "I was carrying you/so your footsteps disappeared" sounds like when you try to carry and take care of a person under the influence. The chorus reminds me of the phrase "hitting rock bottom" and the anger that others can feel when a person does that over and over again.
