Crooked Roof Lyrics

grey skies forming up ahead
you light up like a cigarette
records playing on the set
we dont have a long time left

you call out, you call out every time
i pass thru the hall
that's where your pictures are

you call out, you call out every time
i sing out a note
there go the words you spoke

packing up is turning in
one last look before your eyes grow dim
lay your silhouette on the bed
and ask my where my mind has been
where my mind has been

you call out, you call out every time
i pass thru the hall
that's where your pictures are

you call out, you call out every time
i sing out a note
there go the words you spoke

and i never thought i'd have
a reason to go back
but as it turns out,
what we made is still there
reflecting off the glass
and stitching up the tears

you've got one eye on the house
a crooked roof to be straightened out
you keep the other on the sky
simple life just takes some time
just takes some time

Cover art for Crooked Roof lyrics by J. Tillman

what a lovely use of words.

I think it's about a relationship that has ended but the two involved can't let go, maybe they tried but they just can't seem to really disconnect from eachother. and this house is a metephor for their love. it's crooked and broken and a little messy but they want to fix it.

a simple life just takes some time.. now. that is a lyric to write about.
