Highways of Gold Lyrics
And everybody knows, knows, knows
The highway comes so high
Past the skeleton crows, crows, crows
Pecking at the scenic eyes
And if you try and never look down
You pass the spot connecting the gods
And if you try and never look back
You pass the vine of goshen's pack - me.
And the skeleton rose
They all backs of knives
Watching those luminous rows
Tying knots in the sky
And we were singing...
Highways of gold, where do they go?
Soft dripping rows, I filled 'em down with gold
And everybody knows, knows, knows
That Bobby's gonna die
The way that skeleton rose, rose, rose
Is always getting him high
And if you go, wasting on the sun
With your smile and his back room bars
Waving goodbye
Your ass on the ground, screaming goodbye with fluorescent charm
And everybody knows, knows, knows
The highway comes so high-igh-igh
Past the skeleton crows, crows, crows
On those towers of dime
And we were singing...
Ahh, ahh, ahh
Highways of gold, where do they go?
Soft dripping rows, I filled 'em down with gold
Highways of gold, where do they go?
Soft dripping rows, I filled 'em down with gold
Highways of gold, where do they go?
Soft dripping rows, I filled 'em down with gold
The highway comes so high
Past the skeleton crows, crows, crows
Pecking at the scenic eyes
You pass the spot connecting the gods
And if you try and never look back
You pass the vine of goshen's pack - me.
They all backs of knives
Watching those luminous rows
Tying knots in the sky
And we were singing...
Soft dripping rows, I filled 'em down with gold
That Bobby's gonna die
The way that skeleton rose, rose, rose
Is always getting him high
With your smile and his back room bars
Waving goodbye
Your ass on the ground, screaming goodbye with fluorescent charm
The highway comes so high-igh-igh
Past the skeleton crows, crows, crows
On those towers of dime
And we were singing...
Soft dripping rows, I filled 'em down with gold
Highways of gold, where do they go?
Soft dripping rows, I filled 'em down with gold
Highways of gold, where do they go?
Soft dripping rows, I filled 'em down with gold

Poor Bobby. :(
Okay, so, some of the words are nonsense because I couldn't really figure out what he was saying, but most of it makes sense. If anyone has corrections, feel free to post and I'll edit it! :)
Bobby? I'm pretty sure it's.."Everybody knows, knows, knows, that FIRES going to die, die die"
I think its' nobody knows not how we climbed so high...
Has anyone heard the new version of the song?
I thought the demo was oh so much better.
I bought the album at their concert and this is what the liner notes say...
And everybody knows, knows, knows the highway climbs so high, high, high past the skeleton crows pecking out the cities eyes
Yeah if you drive, drive, drive and never look down you'll pass the spines, spines, spines connecting the clouds And if you drive, drive, drive through the rainbow fence you'll pass the crystallized thundercloud gardens
Me and the skeleton rose, rose, rose lay on our backs one night watching those luminous roads tying knots in the night humming this old song...
Highways of gold Where do they go? The suns dripping roads Like flailing tentacles
And everybody knows, knows, knows that Bobby's gonna die, die, die The way that skeleton rose is always gettin' him high
Oh when he cries roads eject from his eyes And we drive, drive, drive over his last rights Yeah we fly, fly, fly past a map of his heart flashing like, like, like a neon junkyard
And everybody knows the highway climbs so high past the skeleton crows on those towers of time
Highways of gold Where do they go? The suns dripping roads Like flailing tentacles
I think it is pretty vague... I think it has to do with addictions or greed. Addictions because he says shit about getting high, flying over rainbows. Greed because he is making alusions to gold and well being. Hell it could be both ways now that I think about it.
But then he warns us about it, talking about Bobby...
I dunno... I've never really seem to understand quite well Blood Brothers lyrics anyway
i think its about cocaine. am i the only one?
i think its about drugs
And everybody knows, knows, knows that Bobby's gonna die, die, die The way that skeleton rose is always gettin' him high
and the skeleton rose is like drugs
past the skeleton crows pecking out the cities eyes
and the skeleton crows is like the idea of drugs and how ppl dont see how there bad cuz other ppl make them seem soo good like it pecks out your eys and leaves you blind to the fact that what your doing is wrong
Perhaps the "highway" bit represent the notion of "death's road" as in the road that everyone travels when they die..hmm.. i read that somewhere, but i dont know...
I think this song is more about envy than anything. The way i see it, the highways are other people, they're gold because their lives are better than Bobby and Johnny's, who's lives are described as a skeleton rose, Death and life together, perhaps monotony or misery.
