Echoplex Lyrics
Nice and high and far apart
Just like they said
I built this place with broken parts
Just like they said
You chip away the old version of you
You'd be surprised at what you can do
I'm safe in here, irrelevant
Just like they said
My voice just echoes off these walls
You feel me breathe, I am watching you
I see it all
The many ways you can't get to me
I see it all
I see the hell you put yourself through
Oh, the things I could do (if I wanted to)
My voice just echoes off these walls
My voice just echoes off these walls
I don't need anything at all
My voice just echoes off these walls
And I just slowly fade away
And I just slowly fade away
And I just slowly fade away
You will never, ever, ever, ever, get to me in here
You will never, ever, ever, ever, get to me in here
You will never, ever, ever, ever, get to me in here
You will never, ever, ever, ever, get to me in here
Just like they said
I built this place with broken parts
Just like they said
You chip away the old version of you
You'd be surprised at what you can do
I'm safe in here, irrelevant
Just like they said
I see it all
The many ways you can't get to me
I see it all
I see the hell you put yourself through
Oh, the things I could do (if I wanted to)
My voice just echoes off these walls
I don't need anything at all
My voice just echoes off these walls
And I just slowly fade away
And I just slowly fade away
You will never, ever, ever, ever, get to me in here
You will never, ever, ever, ever, get to me in here
You will never, ever, ever, ever, get to me in here

it just seems like his own commentary of how he sees himself in the music industry, especially with leaving a label. how he's evolved and such. just my take. awesome track anyway.

Yeah, that's what I thought, It seems pretty obvious. The ironic thing is some people here are saying it is how his fans see him and... d'uh

He is the watcher, the ghost. Everybody hears and sees him but does not actually hear him, all they hear is words that mean nothing to them. They look at him as if he's a robot, used only for working
"I built this place with broken parts" - he tried/is trying to build a new self with his older broken self
"just like they said" - people told him this would happen or he told himself in third-person
"i'm safe in here\irrelevant\just like they said" - he's not responding to anything going around him; he's locking himself away in his head, where he can just watch
"my voice just echoes off these walls" - nobody hears him, responds, answers his questions, ignores his feelings.
"you feel me breathe\i am watching you\i see it all" - he's watching and they can feel his presence
"the many ways you can't get to me" - he's locking himself up, nobody can contact him or make him respond to anything
"oh the things i could do (if i wanted to) " - he knows he can do anything if anybody would at least listen
"and i just slowly fade away\you will never ever get to me in here" - like in his 10 Miles High song, you will never get him because he is locked inside his head, where, since his "voice echoes off these walls", he feels he is dissapearing
Sounds like me right now.

The repetition of the line: "just like they said" makes me feel like the narrator felt no control over his life, and the line: "my voice just echoes off these walls" to me means that sometimes, no matter what you do, your voice will not be heard. The end of the song seems to be a 'giving up' in a way. It seems that since his voice will not be heard, he won't even bother.
maybe this song is sang from the perspective of trent's inner alcoholic.
where is this song from? is this part of the new songs. i downloaded it and the album art is similar to disapline's
it was released through facebook.com today. it's a part of whatever "discipline" is going to be, i assume.
It's from "The Slip". I am in complete awe of the album. So good.
Trent is a genius. It makes me think of an Alter-ego, someone trapped in themselves

This song is at this point my favorite off of The Slip. The lyrics seem to state one of the recently more comon Nine Inch Nails themes of fading out without any remembrance. Losing your voice and importance within society. Again though, cool song.
