somewhere on pitchfork there was an interview with the band. they said it's not about incest.
I think this song is sort of a continuation of the Field Mice song "This Love Is Not Wrong". Both are declarations that a taboo (lesbian?) love is not to be denied.
Same sex desire always seemed to be the theme to me. I do also think they purposely are toying with us by referencing incest-even if they deny they meant it.
i think the title is definitely a reference to the Field Mice song, but I think the songs might be about incest "you're my sister and this love is fucking right" but i could just be biased 'cause i'm a pixies fan and the "sister" isn't meant to be taken literally

I took "sister" to be literal too. I think its the line "No you can't go home after where you slept last night" that makes me think that. Like they have disgraced, or have been disowned by, their family.
I believe that they just used sister to illustrate some kind of forbidden love. Lesbian, incest or whatever.
I don't think is about incest, it would be too obvious, wouldn't it? It might be about betraying? They talk about not being able to look a best friend in the eye, also it might be that altho you're bad and you have betrayed I love you anyway cause we're blood?
u guys reading too much in to it. uts definitely about cheating, but in circumstances where its justified. Sister being treated wrong or their relationship in big trouble, just finding comfort from another person...
