The Prey Lyrics
They pretend to be the ones to be afraid of
Caressing our souls away from us
And all of the world to keep us all in line
If we just fold our hands and smile
So many wasted
Promises rhapsodised
Promises to take us higher
Don't be afraid of their excommunication, you'll survive.
We'll have no shame cos you will stand the climb and you will rise.
So many wasted promises rhapsodised
So many wasted sundays trying to avoid the fire
So many wasted
Promises to take you higher
They pretend to be the one we should be afraid of
Caressing our souls away
So many wasted promises rhapsodised
So many wasted sundays trying to avoid the fire
I've seen the twisted ways
They push the guilt inside, and made you believe you have to try
To suffer live and die their way
But it doesn't have to be this way.
You don't have to be shaken and confused and
hidden to anything you can find.
Caressing our souls away from us
And all of the world to keep us all in line
If we just fold our hands and smile
Promises rhapsodised
Promises to take us higher
We'll have no shame cos you will stand the climb and you will rise.
So many wasted sundays trying to avoid the fire
So many wasted
Promises to take you higher
Caressing our souls away
So many wasted sundays trying to avoid the fire
I've seen the twisted ways
They push the guilt inside, and made you believe you have to try
To suffer live and die their way
hidden to anything you can find.

This track is "The Prey" right?
I like this song. It's about breaking free of the stranglehold of organized religions and thinking for yourself. I love how he ends it with just "But it doesn't have to be this way" as if he's telling you to go out and find your own answers, don't feel obligated to stay and follow the herd.
I admire that Howerdel is pretty direct with his message (as opposed to MJK w/ APC) and you can always understand ever word he's singing. I didn't even need to read the lyrics for this album- not many modern bands can claim that.
Yes, it IS 'The Prey'! 5ii, why'd you name it Higher? I'm sorry, but seriously, where'd you get that from?

I've really no idea. Sorry about that.
wow this song is completely anti religious basically religion is a waste of time and that you dont have to let "bible belters" push anything onto you anymore
song is about promises... being made... but it's all empty promises... about and organization that we trusted but in fact, they just continue to disappointment... ie. goverment, clickz of frenz.
This song is actually called 'The Pray', it's about religion.
Also, the very beginning sounds just like a Nine Inch Nails song. Very good song.
How beautiful, inspiring, and dangerous!!
The song is "The Prey", did you buy the CD?
th3rdi nailed it but I'll just clarify the title. "The Prey" refers to how religion preys on a person's insecurities about life and death. What better questions are there to answer for an establishment that thrives on fear than why did this happen/what happens when I die?
The message of the song is to find your own way, like th3rdi said. You don't have to fall in line.
Damn you, iTunes. You're right, it's The Prey.
